Beware the Creeper #1 Review - Silver Bullet Comics
Beware the Creeper is quite disappointing and only gains an iota of respectability through Cliff Chiang's impressive skills as an illustrator.
Beware the Creeper treads the same rooftops but falls flat without the intriguing element of multiple personality.

 Beware the Creeper # 4
A mysterious, garishly-dressed woman called the Creeper has been committing various "art crimes" which have seized the imagination of the public while gaining the ire of the police.
After being embraced by the Paris smart set, who consider her some sort of hero, we discover that the Creeper can be genuinely destructive.
The Creeper herself begins to fully realize the severity of her actions after one of her art crimes claims at least one life.

 Sequential Tart: Jason Hall - Creeper's Main Man (vol VI/iss 2/February 2003)
Now, Beware The Creeper is an entirely different story — I did a ton of research because that's set in the "real" world, during a specific year in a specific place where certain historical events were transpiring that have a direct effect (and vice-versa) on the story being told.
The only request was to use the title, Beware The Creeper — but I didn't want to do something that had absolutely nothing to do with the character at all, and I didn't want to "reinvent" the character in a way that disavowed everything that came before.
Also, it doesn't go against anything that's been established — there's no reason why it can't be "in continuity" — and there's even a few subtle nods to all of that for the keen observer to discover if that's his or her sort of thing (personally, I love that kind of stuff).

The last time the character had a series, the creators tried the layering on approach, giving a level of ancient mysticism and insanity to a guy that's pretty much just nuts and wearing the most ridiculous costume in comics' history.
You can choose to believe this is an earlier incarnation of the character, as hinted at in the previous series, but would do a disservice to the pretty cool creation we have here.
Beware The Creeper, as promised, is its own special creature, and one I'm looking forward to seeing through.

 Don Markstein's Toonopedia: The Creeper
The Creeper was Jack Ryder, local newsman and TV personality, whose outspoken commentary got him fired from "respectable" news outlets.
This doesn't seem to allow much time for evaluation; and indeed, the Showcase graduates of that period (such as Angel & the Ape and Bat Lash) have generally been less viable in their own series than earlier ones.
Beware the Creeper lasted a mere six issues, ending with its March-April, 1969 issue.

As Judith helpfully explains, "it's all about the relationship between dreams and reality." Judith's dreams evidently do have reality, since the Creeper - a woman who turns up at the end of this story - is patterned on one of her dreams.
Nonetheless, the Creeper evidently represents Judith's dreams penetrating reality, which presumably provides the basis for the surrealist themes in the story.

The Creeper, however, has been escalating her embarrassing attacks on the multitudinous arms of the Arbogast family, and the Parisian avant-garde has embraced her just as the cops put the pressure on for her capture.
His dialogue captures well a world of people almost too innocent to be making all the shocking choices they make, a world precariously on the brink of never being so innocent again.
The motivation for the Creeper's attacks (if she really is Judith) is fairly clear and standard (she was attacked, and is seeking revenge), but the world her performance unfolds in is not.

Speaking of the art in "Beware The Creeper," both creators are very proud of how the series looks and are happy to talk about the series' aesthetics.
