Bexleyheath Line - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Bexleyheath Line is last of the three rail routes created between the outskirts of London and Dartford in Kent.
There was a line to the south (the Dartford Loop Line) but, in spite of public pressure in the 1880s, the South Eastern Railway (SER) refused to build a line to serve the area between the two lines.
The line was electrified with the other SECR local routes to Dartford on 6th June 1926 by Southern Railway.

 Bexleyheath
Bexleyheath is the current administrative centre for the London Borough of Bexley and the main shopping centre for the borough.
In addition the enclosure of the heath in 1819 meant that the land could be more easily developed and slowly the town of Bexleyheath grew to prominence, overtaking Bexley in terms of population well before the end of the 19th century.
The town was in the middle of a thriving agricultural area and had a market place that became the centre of the new development where the clock tower, built in 1912, is today.

The station underwent major modernisation in 1931 when the main clapboard building was replaced by a single-storey red-brick structure, but unlike that at nearby Bexleyheath, the delightful timber waiting shelter on the ''down'' side was retained.

The line was built to conform with the South Easters standards, it was built in 1890 by William Rigby of Nottingham.

The first railway from London to reach the town was the North Kent Line via Woolwich in 1849, connecting at Gravesend with the line through the Medway Towns.

 Barnehurst
The station opened with the Bexleyheath Line on 1st May 1895, but unlike its counterparts further west along the route, the layout was not built to the standard design.
The first significant leap forward was the inauguration of electric services on all North Kent routes from 6th June 1926, which led to a rapid increase in housing development along the three lines.
Under British Railways, the first significant modifications were to the platforms, which received prefabricated concrete extensions at their Dartford end during June 1954, for the acceptance of ten-vehicle EPB units.

Green Line plates are very sought after nowadays and not easy to find, and are especially interesting as there are so many variations of wording.
The plate is late in manufacture as there are no fl lines on the top and bottom edges and the white numbers are printed proud of the green background rather than the reverse.
The Green Line route network began to be run down in the 1970s but the 705 survived longer than some others by means of a re-routing via Heathrow Airport in 1977 and journeys to Windsor safari park on summer Sundays.

(It's the line that marks the shorter boundary of the field of play and on which the goal is placed.) This player will 'push out' the ball to other attackers, waiting to take a shot at goal.
If the first shot is a 'scoop' or a 'flick' - shots that are lifted into the air and thus usually a little slower than a hit - then the ball can cross the goal-line at any height, as long as it is not dangerous play.
Once the attacker on the back-line begins to push the ball out, the defenders on the back line may move into the circle, and do their best to keep the other team from scoring.
