 WUB ESSAY BY Lord RC
An essay by Lord RC Philip K. Dick's first published short story, "Beyond Lies The Wub" (PLANET STORIES, July 1952), is typical in one regard at least to most of his work: it lends itself to various interpretations and much analysis.
Nor is he persuaded otherwise when the wub speaks to him in cultured tones of Philosophy and The Arts -- while slobbering all over the floor of the spaceship.
And indeed the wub is fine eating for the Captain at the end of the tale.

Something Rich and Strange: P.K. Dick's "Beyond Lies the Wub"
This latter aspect is a fundamental clue and means to explicating Dick's fictional technique and inferring therefrom his metaphysics for, it is primarily via the psychological effects of his characters' various encounters with reality that Dick manifests his concept of metaphysical reality.
Franco is depicted as a unfeeling, harsh, pragmatic individual whereas the Wub would rather discuss questions of Philosophy and the Arts and is addicted to various forms of relaxation.
Is it form or content that makes one a Wub or a Man? In that "essence" is usually associated, philosophically, with universal, accidents, and form, whereas "content" is associated with existence, particular, and substance, the Wub's actions help indicate Dick's metaphysics.

A huge dirty pig!" and the wub's movements in the ship are described in an agonizing way as it "twisted, rubbing its skin off on the smooth chrome walls" until it "burst into the anteroom, tumbling down in a heap" (28).
Yet placing dislike upon the alien is problematic in the story and, in fact, it is the question of where dislike should be placed which seems to be paramount to "Beyond Lies the Wub".
Though he initially suggests eating the wub, it is Peterson who bothers to converse with the wub on matters other than food and it is Peterson who refuses to dine on the wub in the end.

The SF Site Featured Review: Lies, Inc.
It would be a disservice to the book to reveal an important theme involved with climax of the novel, as it is intended to be something of a surprise.
Lies, Inc. is not an example of Philip K. Dick's best work, not a classic.
It is typical of some of his great work during the mid-sixties, a prolific period in his career, shows some remarkable characteristics, elaborates on some of Dick's usual interests and reoccurring themes, and certainly has a fascinating publishing history.

Philip K. Dick - Beyond Lies The Wub: Volume One of the Collected Stories
His fourth work and first published short story, "Beyond Lies the Wub", appeared in PLANET STORIES in July 1952, and two of those other three appeared soon after; one of them, "The Little Movement" in FANTASY AND SCIENCE FICTION.
In fact, of the twenty five stories he wrote (and are collected here) in the first nine months of his career only one, his first story, was not published.

I've got a research paper due and my instructor gave back my rough draft, saying I had a few grammar/punctuation errors in this one section, but I cant find them.
"Jensen notes that Philip K. Dick’s first sale was of the story “Roog,” to The Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, in 1952, and that his first story published was “Beyond Lies the Wub,” in Planet Stories in 1952."
That balances the split predicate, changes the passiveness, puts the commas where they belong, and corrects "his first published story."
