Bhabhar is a region in the Lower Himalayas mostly covering the Kumaon and Garhwal divisions in the Indian state of Uttaranchal.
This is a level surface zone at the foothills of the Himalayas 34 km wide where the Himalayan rivers and streams disappear under boulders and gravels due to the porous soil and sub-soil composition of Bhabhar.
South of Bhabhar lies the alluvial stretch called the Terai.

The transitional belt running along the entire length of the state is called the terai and bhabhar area.
The bhabhar tract gives place to the terai area which is covered with tall elephant grass and thick forests interspersed with marshes and swamps.

Water for irrigation from the earthen dams, fodder grass as forage for the livestock, and bhabhar grass for rope making are some of the important incentive mechanisms through which the HFD involves the local community for the protection and management of the above forests.
The study shows that in order to provide incentives to the forest community on a sustainable basis the HFD has to take into consideration factors like composition of crop, land-use pattern, hydrology of the watershed, and the significance of the diversity of the resources.
The flow of bhabhar grass from the lessee to the final consumers has also been traced and the value addition at each level has been computed and compared.

 Parallel castor exchange divides brokers
A GROUP of brokers, fed up with manipulation and maneuvering, have set up a parallel exchange at Bhabhar, the nerve center of the illegal futures trading in castorseeds.
The new exchange, which has started it's marketing campaign in a bid to widen the participation from diverse audience, has identified five mandies as delivery centers.
Hence it was dominated by the leading local brokers and there was enough room for manipulation, said an analyst.

Thanks to lower crop size, the parallel futures trading could not be kicked of at the Bhabhar in the current year too.
The parallel futures traded at Biavar Rajasthan was quoted at Rs 7,500 per 100 kg, it is learnt.
Earlier, the futures were also tradedat Bhabhar, Gujarat, however the futures trading at Bhabhar has been put off following a manipulation controversy in 1996.

 Kidnap victim returns home -DAWN - National; February 12, 2002
Lalchand and Akmal Awan were kidnapped on Nov 26 last year while travelling in a wagon from Hyderabad to Sanghar.
The van was stopped by a gang of dacoits near Dalori Mori of Bhabhar Shakh.
Five persons were taken away, three of them were released at some distance but Lalchand and Akmal remained with dacoits since then.

 CID Unearths cricket betting racket
CID crime uncovered a cricket betting racket in Bhabhar town in Banaskantha where three persons were arrested and equipment and cash worth Rs 77,730 were seized from the betting den on Tuesday.
Police recovered 10 telephones, nine mobile phones, 23 tape recorders and conference machines and Rs 3,850 in cash.
Those arrested are Ajay Thakker, Chirag Thakker and Kalu Rawal, all residents of Bhabhar while the owner of the den Anil Thakker and one Kalu Thakor escaped from the place when the police conducted the raid.

 Scholar shot dead by robbers -DAWN - National; February 7, 2006
DOUBLE MURDER: Two people were shot dead over an old enmity at Dera Sichan near Noushera Virkan on Monday.
Police said Sarwar was on his way home with friends Javed and Munawar from Bhabhar after attending a Majlis-i-Aza.
His rival Sajid along with 11 accomplices intercepted them.
