The Early Years of Nepalese Literature and Bhanubhakta Acharya: Events: Spiny Babbler Programs
Bhanubhakta Acharya, born to a Brahmin family in 1814 in Tanahu, received an excellent education with a strong leaning towards religion at home from his grandfather.
Bhanubhakta was definitely “the” writer who gained the acceptance of a wide range of people and his creations played a key role in popularizing the written form of the Khas language.
Bhanubhakta not only won his freedom with his poem, but was given a bag of money as well.

Perhaps Bhanubhakta is the only littérateur of Nepali literature whose literary reputation has been well established both at home and in several parts of India.
In fact, Bhanubhakta’s reputation was tainted but still he was confident that one day he would be released with dignity and the real culprit would be caught.
Bhanubhakta dictated, and Ramnath wrote down, what his father told him; finally the translated work was finished.

Bhanubhakta has been credited with making Nepali a unifying lingua franca, but some are not sure.
Today, 13 July, 2001, is the 188th birth anniversary of Adikavi Bhanubhakta, the poet who is credited with single-handedly cementing the Nepali nation with its unifying language.
At that time Bhanubhakta was hardly heard of in his own homeland.

 Welcome to Sentinel
Bhanubhakta’s imprisonment turned out to be a blessing in disguise for the Nepalese the world over.
However, Bhanubhakta’s detractors seem to totally ignore the time he lived in, a ruthless and autocratic regime had taken deep roots in Nepal at that time.
Bhanubhakta was an accomplished poet and the Ramayan is not his sole achievement.

SINHAS Abstracts: Volume 4, No. 1
I have shown that the agency of individuals and institutions who invented new practices to cultivate the nationalist ideology built around Bhanubhakta was central to the history of its rise to the status of national culture.
It was their work which later allowed the central state to use powerful instruments such as school textbooks, posters and film to make Bhanubhakta every Nepali's ancestor.
I have argued that this making of Bhanubhakta has succeeded not so much as the result ofÊwork that followed a 'blue-print' of what I have called the cultivating Bhanubhakta project, but rather through multiply overlapping and over-determining projects, not all of which were conceived as parts of a grand whole.

Bhanubhakta Pokhrel, on behalf of the DC Metro Chapter, he also remarked that the culture of honoring the living poets — who are the social forerunners - is actually an excellent job in itself which is very much encouraging and meaningful to do some more while s/he has any physical time and power.
Bhanubhakta Pokhrel while expressing his warm words of gratefulness laid stress on the importance of arts, literature and culture as being the flowery symbol and substantial realities of the meaningful identity as well as prosperity of the community and nation in point.

There is much to suggest that it did not and that, in fact, trying to create a national sensibility based in language and literature by claiming that it already existed was part of their project of nationalizing Nepali literature.
Bhanubhakta completed the writing of the satkanda-Ramayana in Nepali between 1841 and 1853.
According to literary historian Kamal Dixit, in the preface Pokharel wrote that he was publishing Bhanubhakta's Ramayana in the belief that the text would assist all readers to maintain their dharma.

Our correspondent Sanjay Pradhan, quoting West Bengal officials, reports from Darjeeling that noted critic Indra Bahadur Rai, who was in the forefront of the movement for inclusion of the Nepali language in the Eighth Schedule of the Indian Constitution, has been selected for this year’s award.
He argued that the rejection of Nepal-born Bhanubhakta and adoption of Gorkha as the name of the Nepali race and language in India would give Nepali-speaking Indians an identity distinct from that of the people of Nepal.
However, Poet Bhanubhakta is revered as the greatest of all great Nepalis in the Darjeeling hills where his first statue was installed way back in 1949.

The First Annual Graduate Student Conference on South Asia
Motiram Bhatta (1866 — 1896) is celebrated in contemporary Nepal for publishing and promoting the Nepali Ramayan of Bhanubhakta Acharya, a text generally considered both the first major work of modern Nepali literature and a fundamental component of a broader Nepali national, ethnic, and linguistic identity.
Nepali speakers in Nepal and the Darjeeling region of North-east India share a common language and literature, while remaining divided by national borders; political boundaries complicate Bhanubhakta’s relations with the transnational Nepali-speaking community, and make Nepali literature itself a potentially divisive political and cultural touchstone in the region.
For Nepali speakers in both Nepal and India, Nepali literature is a potent symbol of a shared Nepali cultural identity, and an at times complicated reminder that ethnic Nepalis are separated by the political borders of modern Nepal and India.

Darjeeling, July 11: The political ups and downs in the hills seem to have eclipsed the celebrations for the birth anniversary of Bhanubhakta Acharya, to be observed on July 13.
As part of the celebrations, the government of Nepal (Bhanubhakta?s homeland) today declared the poet?s place at Chundi Ramgha near Pokhara a tourist site, but Darjeeling does not seem to be much interested in observing the Jayanti.
The mellowed enthusiasm might be traced to GNLF chief Subash Ghisingh?s disinterest in Bhanubhakta.
