 [No title]
Bharat Bhushan, an Ohio Eminent Scholar and director of the Computer Microtribology and Contamination Laboratory at Ohio State University, said that the new field is providing important clues about what happens between individual atoms and molecules when two surfaces meet.
The realm in which Bhushan and his colleagues are operating is the world of nanotechnology, an arena where the thickness of a human hair -- 75,000 nanometers -- is gargantuan compared to the thickness of surfaces and the depth of scratches on the materials he is using.
Bhushan said that the entire field of nanotribology is only two to three years old and already it represents an industry worth hundreds of billions of dollars.

Bhushan's cohorts on these projects include Ohio State mechanical engineering doctoral students Sriram Sundararajan and Huiwen Liu, and Wolfgang Eck and Volker Stadler, both physical chemists from the University of Heidelberg, Germany.
For this work, Bhushan and his colleagues found a new application for a commercially available tool already sitting in their laboratory: an atomic force microscope (AFM), which records the shape of an object by dragging a tiny needle over its surface.
Bhushan had already purchased a supply of the material for his hard disk research.

Bharat Bhushan, who now stands tall in the business with over Rs 25 lakh worth of publications per year, hails from a family that had to pick rags for sustenance soon after the deluge of Partition.
Interestingly, Bhushan has acquired foreign rights, besides roping in subject-authors from different parts of the world, to become one of the largest publishers of textile technology books in the world.
It is to honour his commitment to masses that Bhushan, unlike most publishers, comes out with paper back editions of books on self help, entrepreneurship, besides those in general and reference sections, which have sufficient relevance.

 Bharat Bhushan, the tragic hero
Bharat Bhushan may have never been a swashbuckling hero, but he was just right as the sensitive, suffering poet-musician in several hit musicals in the fifties and sixties.
Bhushan was willing to work with a variety of directors like K A Abbas (Gyarah Hazaar Ladkiyaan) and director-composer S N Tripathi (Bhushan played the music-obsessed protagonist in his Rani Roopmati, Kavi Kalidas and Sangeet Samraat Tansen, which yielded a rich haul of melodious numbers).
Bhushan, who had lost his first wife, took consolation in his second marriage to actress Ratna (she co-starred with him in Barsaat Ki Raat) and in his immense library of books till he passed away a little more than a decade ago.

Researchers Pioneer Techniques To Lubricate Microdevices
Led by Bharat Bhushan, Ohio Eminent Scholar and Howard D. Winbigler Professor of mechanical engineering at Ohio State, researchers here have pioneered the first direct method for measuring the friction of these tiny parts as they rub together -- with results twice as accurate as any previous indirect method could provide.
Normally, Bhushan's laboratory studies the texture of micro-thin coatings on computer hard disks and data tapes -- items for which friction, wear, and lubrication dominate performance.
The researchers were also able to gauge the amount of friction inside the motor by measuring the force required for the needle to nudge the central rotor into motion.
