While there he became acquainted with many of the fathers of reggae such as Desmond Dekker and would help organize functions for them at the school.
Afterwards Brandis returned to Canada and found himself involved with Oxfam in their efforts to aide the cause of Biafrian Independence (Biafra was a breakaway republic that formed shortly after Nigeria was no longer a colony of Great Britian).
He joined a team of people who would fly food from São Tomé (a Portuguese of the West Coast of Africa) across a military blockade into Biafra.

Make no mistake about it, I am not under any obligation to defend anybody, but my candid opinion is predicated on the reality, as a writer with a social responsibility to react to developments affecting him in his society.
Thus, whether the cry of Igbo marginalisatoin emanated from Ikemba Nnewi or any other disaffected Biafrian soldier, the truth of the matter is that they are not merely crying wolf when there is none.
Frankly speaking, I cannot say specifically that President Obasanjo hates Igbos, but the reality on the ground in Igbo land, five years after he ascended Aso Rock, is indicative that the Easterners are merely subsisting on crumbs falling from the national cake.

Talk:Nigerian Civil War - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Swedes left Biafra after some time, but the BAF continued to function, although the media wasn't interested in that and subsequently didn't report that.
Soviet Ambassador in Nigeria claimed in his book about NCW, that one of Biafrian bombers (I don't know how much bombers were there in BAF, maybe that was the only one?) exploded in the sky over Lagos because of an airbomb malfunction - no one of crew members survived.
The article for Biafra says that five countries gave recognition: Gabon, Haiti, Ivory Coast, Tanzania, and Zambia.

I hope Nigerian politicians understand that and are willing to apply that in their everyday lives.
And if other Nigeria tribes do not have confidence in Igboman leading them or if they think Igboman, once given a presidential chance, will actualization the Biafrian dream, then I will say that Nigeria is not for all Nigerians.
Even though I do not support any war in any form or fashion, I find it very hard to believe that a well educated Igbo man like you will publicly disown your fallen Biafrian men and women, who lost their lives in the war for selfish political gain.

The SSS further said its invitation to Ojukwu did not constitute arrest, but merely for a chat, and that he was free to bring along his lawyer or anybody he designates to come along with him.
The SSS warned that should Ojukwu remain adamant in his position, the security establishment would have the option to use other lawful means to enforce its authority.

The Mission proposes, in effect, four steps for the U.S. to take: 1) to play a more active role as a mediator in the negotiations leading to a cease fire and expanded relief.
However, he did observe that "arriving at some sort of accommodation is made easier by the fact that about four African states have recognized Biafra and France has made gestures that have enhanced Biafra's dignity as a nation." He added that the Biafrians' situation was similar to the Isrealis.
Both countries are heavily intellectual groups set upon by less educated peoples who have superior numbers.

Friction took a Quantum leap at the PDP national convention in 1999 and 2003 where sons and daughters of Jacob [Ibos] sold their brother Joseph [Ekwueme] into slavery for reasons best known to them.
Today they are gnashing their yellow Biafrian teeth, shouting Ibo presidency to high heavens, crawling, begging and licking the asses of their fellow Nigerians to help them actualize their sick dreams.
But before the first PDP convention, there had already been cracks in Iboland that appeared way back in ’79.

Within weeks, southeastern Nigeria was quickly transformed into a killing field and a theater for playing out complex intrigues in which global powers took special interest for obvious reasons.
Whatever development that existed in major population centers of the secessionist Biafrian territory was systematically destroyed, more than half of the population became refugees while millions died of disease, starvation and overwhelming firepower from air, land and sea.
The carnage ended abruptly in January 1970 when the military backbone of the Biafran resistance was broken by the more numerous and better supplied federal forces.
