The landscape in the district are the hills of the Oberschwäbischen Hügelland and the Westallgäuer Hügelland.

According to information forwarded by the BMVEL the sheep was more than 1 year old, had died and originated from a wandering flock kept on its winter pasture in the regional district Karlsruhe.
