 The Destruction of the Bible
The bible is forced upon us at every turn-- we take oaths on it, U.S. presidents are sworn in on it, it is impossible to get a hotel room without one, and there are unrelenting efforts to get bibles re-introduced into public schools.
Those who claim that the bible offers moral and spiritual teachings will be shown that not only is that statement unsupportable, but that the exact opposite can be demonstrated-- that the bible is the source of much of the world's evil.
The bible is a blend of ancient Middle Eastern history, Jewish law, and mythology-- mythology both traditionary among the Jews but also borrowed from neighboring nations such as Babylon and Assyria.

What The Christian Fundamentalist Doesn't Want You To Know - A brief survey of Biblical errancy
But, if, on the other hand, it can be shown that there are clearly and unquestionably errors in the Bible, from whatever source, then the position of the fundamentalist is greatly weakened, and if it is based on inerrancy of the Bible, disproven.
Apologists suggest that the number was "rounded off" because the Bible "resists interpretation outside a culture not it's own." (Robert Mounce in Answers to Questions About the Bible) Other fundamentalists point out that if the diameter had been measured to the outside, and the circumference the inside, it could have equaled three.
That's an easy way out, that also has the effect of saying that since the Bible is actually does have errors in it, it can't reliably be considered to be the infallible word of God, either.

 More on Heaven
Given conflicting religious experiences there is no reason to suppose that they have any validity at all.[ 8 ] This problem with accepting religious experience as veridical is hardly considered by Wanchick and all of the difficult issues of establishing the truth of religious experience are pretty much ignored.
Wanchick is correct that some of the problems I discussed in relation to other views of heaven do not apply to ISFA.
One problem that arises in evaluating the claim that everyone has been visited by the Holy Spirit is determining what exactly this means.

 Biblical Errancy
With such an irrational hatred of the Bible as the motivation behind The Bible Errancy, it is no surprise to find the newsletter filled with every logical, historical, and biblical error known to man. Apparently, the editor superficially rushes through the Bible looking for anything he can twist into a contradiction or error.
Your real mistake lies in saying "the motivation behind his newsletter was to get people to `throw the Bible in the trash." when it really exists to get people to see all the problems contained therein.
A Bible critic probably would take that in chronological order so that he could say the Bible has `an obvious and clearcut contradiction!" If what you say is true, Ed, then translators of the versions I quoted must not be Bible students because they compared scripture with scripture and wrote the text in chronoligical order.

It would be virtually impossible for any intelligent open-minded person outside of the cultic mind-controlling influence of religion, to read these two books and still maintain that the Bible is inspired by God in any way.
There are maybe 3 or 4 ridiculous references outside of the Bible, each one clearly proven to be nothing more than forgeries and/or vague wishful thinking.
For the Bible to be true, one would have to believe that the scientific record as to the earth's creation, development and related timelines involved have all been placed on earth to deceive mankind.

 Books about Biblical Errancy
One True Doctrine traces the Bible back to its Pagan antecedents, explains the historical contexts in which it was canonized and promulgated, and provides a point-for-point overview of the many plainly contradictory statements in what is held by fundamentalists to be an "inerrant" text.
Gleason Archer, the chief apostle of modern day inerrantists, made a pathetic try in his Encyclopedia of Bible Difficulties, but, like most 'explanations' of 'alleged Bible contradictions,' his is too ridiculous to warrant serious consideration...
The first book to critically analyze, and take issue with, every section of the Judeo-Christian Bible from a wholly skeptical, utterly scholarly perspective, Mythology's Last Gods is a comprehensive history of the development of Judeo-Christian god-mythology.

 The Errancy Debate
It is absolutely necessary that Robert demonstrates a collective nature to the individual works encompassing the Bible before he can treat it as a single unit and interpret the sale prices in one store as indicative of the prices in other stores.
I used the nature of the Bible (a collection of human authored works by authors from various walks of life over a thousand year period) to argue that there is no way possible that such a work could be regarded as inerrant.
Unless it is demonstrated that the Bible was inspired by God we are to view it as erroneous.

 Did Jesus exist?
Other scholars have concluded that the Bible is the product of a purely human endeavor, that the identity of the authors is forever lost and that their work has been largely obliterated by centuries of translation and editing.
Martin Luther called it "an epistle of straw" that did not belong in the Bible because it seemed to contradict Paul's teachings that salvation comes by faith as a "gift of God"-- not by good works.
Note that these Gospels did not come into the Bible as original and authoritative from the authors themselves, but rather from the influence of early church fathers, especially the most influential of them all: Irenaeus of Lyon who lived in the middle of the second century.

Farrell Till's Biblical Errancy Discussion List
If any readers are having problems with Bible fundamentalists, I will gladly engage them in public debate if by chance you can find any who are willing to defend their outrageous beliefs before an informed opposition.
Once the seeds of doubt had been planted in my mind, I began to see that the Bible wasn't a book with just a few problems; it was riddled with inconsistencies, discrepancies, contradictions, and absurdities.
I can't remember the first time I heard that the Bible is a perfectly harmonious book from cover to cover.

 Biblical Errancy
Entitled An Encyclopedia of Biblical Difficulties, the promotional campaign by "Christian Readers News" describes it as a work which "exhaustively studies every difficult passage in the Bible-Genesis to Revelation." This is erroneous as this issue of Biblical Errancy, and those that follow, will show.
The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 2: 14, " But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned." You are dealing with a spiritual book when you deal with the Bible.
The Bible says, "Always be prepared to make a defense to any one who calls you to account for the hope that is in you;..." (1 Peter 3:15).

Re: Skeptics being wrong about the Bible. The Bible skeptics errancy list - EvC Forum
Luckily, people like us who know the Bible is inerrant can use this indisputable fact to defend the theory of inerrancy.
And while I have read of many examples where a skeptic or skeptics made a claim against the Bible that was very poor I have never seen a list of them although I read one article that mentioned 3 or 4 of them.
I am not looking for instances where a skeptic thinks the Bible is in error, however, and I want to make that clear.

A more objective problem (and I'm sure you won't disagree) with infidels.org is the same problem with Rush Limbaugh.

Its great at presenting its evidence, and makes one look at things with a new light, but it is very one sided.

 Biblical Errancy
I debate local ministers on bible inerrancy and the existence of god on occasion and find your encyclopedia very useful.
In truth, anyone with even a modicum of information regarding BE knows that we have presented hundreds, even thousands, of contradictions of this nature and have never been so foolish as to assume a few mathematical conflicts are sufficient to bring down the Bible.
Third, as far as how much of the Bible I accept as truth is concerned, so much is fallacious and contradictory, that I have never felt any need for such a fruitless analysis and that isn't even the issue.

 Biblical Errancy
As I've said so often, and apparently it bears repeating, Biblical Errancy is concerned with everything bearing on the Bible's validity and that includes more than just internal contradictions.
While he would decry a wooden, strictly literal method of Bible interpretation (because he thinks the Bible is too unreliable to support such a method), he is certainly guilty of employing such a method.
Secondly, the problem lies not with my adoption of an extremely literal method but with his repeated abandonment of the literal interpretation every time he feels the pinch.

 A List of Biblical Contradictions
This is an amusing misdirection to the problem that the bible itself is wrong.
The Bible is riddled with repetitions and contradictions, things that the Bible bangers would be quick to point out in anything that they want to criticize.
A good source of _literal_ Biblical self-contradictions is (surprise) "Self-Contradictions of the Bible", written by William Henry Burr in 1859 as a response to fundamentalism.

 Bible Errancy?
If one sees sufficient reason to believe that God has spoken, and that the Bible is the word of God, it would be no great leap to view the originals as inerrant.
These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.
As for the original being flawless, that is again a good question.
