Biblical studies is the academic study of what Christianity calls the Bible (including the New Testament and Old Testament, sometimes called the "Scriptures"), and what Judaism terms the Hebrew Bible (also called the Torah or Tanakh in Hebrew).
Biblical studies is a branch of theology, but also draws on the disciplines of history, literary criticism, philology, and increasingly the social sciences.
Biblical Studies involve the studies of the Bible and can be studied as a subject for themselves or as a subdivision under Theology.

Biblical scholarship is often assumed to have undergone a paradigm shift from a diachronic to a synchronic worldview.

 MA Biblical Studies
is a professional-level degree designed to prepare students for work in biblical studies with a practitioner's approach to Biblical studies and with an option to become sufficiently acquainted with the Greek and Hebrew languages for use as basic linguistic tools in the study of the Bible.
In keeping with this tenet, the Turner School of Theology has established a residency requirement for the Master of Arts in Biblical Studies program that specifies that the equivalent of at least one full-time academic year of work must be completed on the SCU Campus in Mon tgomery, Alabama.
In order to have the greatest impact on the academic study process, students are encouraged to take these residency seminars throughout the course of the 57 semester hours M.A. Degree program in the Biblical Studies track.

Bible Studies and Mission (BISAM) is one of the oldest interest groups of IAMS and has been under the leadership of people such as David Bosch, John Pobee, Sr Teresa Okure SHCJ and now Dr. John Prior.
Initially the study was conceived as a collection of short texts with questions for readers revolving around the general theme of “Power” and “The Other.” Owing to the wide divergence of methods used in the incoming articles, at Port Dickson it was decided to draw up new parameters.
Eight participants were interested in carrying their study forward leading to a possible BISAM publication.
