The lake is a popular tourist destination in the region, especially in the summertime, when visitors can take the ferryboat from Bicaz port for a short trip on the lake, enjoying the magnificent view of Mount Ceahlau on the west shore.
In the 1960s and 1970s there was regular ferry service between Bicaz port and the villages on the shorelake.
At Potoci, a few kilometers north of Bicaz town there is a biological research facility, equipped by a small submersible used for underwater explorations.

Lacu Rosu is situated on the national road DN 12C, that links Bicaz and Gheorghieni, road that hosts the most impressing walls of the Cheile Bicazului on an 8 km distance between Bicaz Chei village and Lacu Rosu.
The access to this area can be done by car on DN 12C, as well as by train to Bicaz (coming from the East), and to Gheorghieni (coming from the West).
The Climbing Cheile Bicazului are mainly made up of calcareous structure that presupposes a technical climb on washed surfaces as well as on the surplombe ones.

At least i think they were higher mountains because, they were barely visible due to a storm that was starting.
The hydroelectric dam at the lake's southern end was built in 1950, with several villages being submerged and relocated in the process.
