The name of the place on which he is believed to have made first landfall was renamed from Cape Everard back to the name Cook had given it, Point Hicks.
The bicentenary of Captain Arthur Phillip's arrival with the First Fleet in Sydney Harbour in 1788 and the founding of the city of Sydney and the colony of New South Wales.

To mark the bicentenary of the birth of Berlioz in December 1803 the National Library of Scotland exhibited a small selection of music and documents from its renowned Berlioz collections.
This talk, written for the bicentenary of Berlioz’s birth, sought to promote a better understanding of the ambiguous and complex relationship between the two men, which over a period of nearly thirty years mingled rejection with admiration and love with hate.

 The World Today - Official bicentenary date of European settlement in Tasmania under dispute
HAMISH ROBERTSON: Australia's smallest state, Tasmania, is gearing up to celebrate the bicentennial of European settlement, but the formal commemoration won't be held next Friday, which in fact is the 200th anniversary of the arrival of the first British settlers in the island.
The Tasmanian Government has instead consulted widely about a bicentenary to be held next year, which it aims to make as inclusive as possible.
The Bicentenary Committee is vigorously denying the claim.

 Robert Burns, 1759-1796
The University of South Carolina is marking the bicentenary of Robert Burns's death in 1796, not only with an international research conference on "Robert Burns and Literary Nationalism," but with a major exhibition of works by and about the poet, showing selected highlights from the G. Ross Roy Collection of Burns, Burnsiana and Scottish Poetry.
It is a special pleasure to me to see the Roy Collection displayed for the bicentenary, as its acquisition was one of the first goals to be realized after I became director of the University of South Carolina Libraries.
Thanks are due to the South Carolina Humanities Council, a state-level agency of the National Endowment for the Humanities, for support of the Burns bicentenary project, and to the Thomas Cooper Society, for generously funding this exhibit catalogue.
