Cheshire's farmers and landowners will be celebrating during National Wildlife Week as their efforts to enhance the environment are proving successful under Countryside Stewardship Scheme (CSS) agreements.
Bickerton Hill and Lindow Common are both included in the Cheshire BAP, with heathland restoration successfully being carried out at both sites in the last year.
It is the largest area of lowland heath in Cheshire, and is notable for the variety of reptiles present, including adders, common lizards and slow worms.

I believe his father was Thomas Bickerton who, according to the churchwarden accounts of Myddle, lived in the hamlet of Bilmarsh immediately before Samuel appears in the accounts.
Thomas Bickerton married Sarah Thomas in 1715 in Oswestry, Shropshire.
In about 1701 it says John Bickerton, a cheshire man, was a subtenant of Broomhurst Farm.

He was the son of 23-year-old Martha Dodd, and grandson of William Dodd, shoemaker of Bickerton.
His mother married George Taylor, a miner from Woore, Shropshire in 1855 at Audlem St James, and by 1861 she and her new husband were living in Wood Lane, Audley, Staffs with their three young sons, George, Joseph and Amos.
William therefore appears to have been raised by his grandparents, William and Mary Dodd, in Bickerton, Cheshire.
