Bidhan was the youngest of five children and was greatly influenced by the simplicity, discipline and piety of his parents.
Roy was serving as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta.

An eminent physician, educationalist, freedom fighter, leader of the Indian National Congress and later Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy was born on July 1, 1882 at Bankipore in Patna in Bihar.
Roy’s active entry into politics was in 1923 when he sought election to the Bengal Legislative Council and defeated Surendranath Banerjee.
Roy was asked by the Congress and especially by Gandhiji to be part of the administration during the turbulent period of the Dandi March and he was made the Alderman and later the Mayor of the Corporation.
