Manitoba achieved a milestone today in its plan to develop clean, affordable energy sources with the first commercial sale of provincially-produced biodiesel fuel to Manitoba Hydro, Energy, Science and Technology Minister Dave Chomiak announced today with Agriculture, Food and Rural Initiatives Minister Rosann Wowchuk.
Bifrost Bio-Blends and Manitoba Hydro were both members of the council.
Bifrost Bio-Blends biodiesel fuel is produced to ASTM 6751 standards and meets or exceeds all North American standards.

The Rural Municipality of Bifrost is located in Manitoba’s Interlake region, and includes small communities of Morweena, Vidir and Hnausa.
Bifrost is a Scandinavian word that means “rainbow bridge connecting heaven and earth”.
The municipal offices for Bifrost were set up in Hnausa, but in 1916 the offices moved to the Town of Arborg.

In his second appearance in as many months before Bifrost council, Cyr offered his observations of the hog industry in southern Manitoba and pleaded with council to heed his warnings.
Bifrost Reeve Harold Foster assured Cyr that council is taking the issue seriously and pointed out that it has already passed first reading of a new bylaw that addresses some of his concerns.
The new bylaw would limit one barn on 160 acres for any livestock operation; separation between residences and neighboring barns will be one mile; limit on the number of hogs reduced to 300 from 400; and blanket-type covers for all lagoons.
