The Big Bayou Disaster was also the ispiration for the song Sunset Limited by the Anti-Heroes, an Oi band from Atlanta, GA. The lyrics center on the actions undertaken by the parents of a handicapped child who gave up their own lives to save their disabled daughter.

It happened when a bridge in southern Alabama, over the Big Bayou Conot, which the Sunset Limited passenger train was to run across collapsed, plunging the train into the water.
The cause of the accident was determined to be a barge colliding with the bridge a short time before the disaster, displacing the tracks on the bridge.
