The park derives its name from Big Hill Pond which was created in 1953 when dirt was scooped from a borrow pit to build a levee across the Tuscumbia and Cypress Creek bottoms for the Memphis to Charleston Railroad.

The Big Nasty has two different hills, our 250-foot hill for kids, trophy classes, and exhibition qualifying, and the ominous 460-foot, pro hill, with its 20-foot cliff near the top.
No stock motorcycles have ever made it over the top of our 250-foot hill, although several have gotten really close, and winners are decided by either who goes the highest on the hill, or who goes over the top in the quickest time.
The 460-foot pro hill has turned out to be really Nasty, and in the two events held on the big hill (2004-2005) only a grand total of 14 successful runs (out of over 500 attempts) have ever gone over the top.

NC Big Sweep is a non-profit organization that conducts year-round education to prevent litter.  Each fall, it sponsors North Carolina’s “Big Sweep”, the North Carolina component of the International Coastal Cleanup--an event in which volunteers from all 100 counties in the State and approximately 90 countries worldwide remove litter from their respective watersheds.
The Stormwater Management Division of the Town of Chapel Hill coordinated the event with help from zone captains at the NC Botanical Garden, Eno River State Park, Orange County, the Town of Carrboro, and two of the Chapel Hill Housing Department’s Family Resource Centers.
The next Big Sweep in Orange County will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2007 from 9:00 AM until 1:00 PM.   Gloves, bags and vests will be provided for the clean-up.  High school volunteers may count the event towards their community service hours required for graduation.
