Big L (May 30, 1974 – February 15, 1999) was born Lamont Coleman in Manhattan.
Big L was born, grew up, lived, and was fatally shot all in the same Harlem neighborhood he so frequently rhymed about.
On the evening of February 15, 1999 Big L was shot nine times and killed just blocks away from his Harlem home.

D.I.T.C. Big L joined the Bronx-based hip-hop supergroup Diggin' in the Crates Crew (D.I.T.C.) and appeared on their single recording of Dignified Soldiers and their later LP.
On the evening of February 15, 1999 Big L was shot seven times in the head and chest and killed just blocks away from his Harlem home.
Up to this day Big L is widely considered to be one of the most talented lyricists to surface in the world of hip-hop.

Big L was struck by nine bullets in the face and chest on the corner of 139th Street and Lenox Avenue in Harlem, the same block that was on the cover of his “Ebonics” / “Size ‘Em Up” single.
Big L first appeared on Lord Finesse’s “Yes You May” remix which was on the B-Side of “Party Over Here” in 1992.
Recently Big L and the D.I.T.C. crew decided to take matters into their own hands and independently released a number of singles including “Day One”, “Internationally Known” and “Dignified Soldiers”, with a full length album planned to be released through Tommy Boy Records.

Big L, the Harlem, New York native came out with only one solo album before dying, Lifestyles Ov Da Poor and Dangerous on Columbia Records but he made his mark underground and with his crew of Deejays and producers, Diggin In The Crates (DITC).
Big L was influential in the careers of former or current stars Camron, Mase, McGruff and Jay Z who all appeared on L’s first album.
L killed songs like The Enemy, Thick and Street Struck but his best song was Ebonics, a song in which he broke all slang down for non-urbanites.
