The Big Six Conference, a former NCAA-affiliated major college athletic association that sponsored American football, was formed in 1928 when six members of the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association departed that conference to establish the Big Six.
The Big Six Conference remained intact until 1948, when the six charter members were joined by Colorado to create the Big Seven Conference.
The six charter members of the former Big Six Conference have been affiliated with the Big Twelve Conference since 1996.

 Bowl Championship Series
Should a team from a conference which does not have an automatic selection or an independent institution be ranked in the top six* such team shall be guaranteed selection in one of the games of the Bowl Championship Series.
Should three or more teams from conferences which do not have an automatic selection or one or more independent institutions (any combination totaling three or more teams) be ranked in the top six*, the bowls shall select from among these three or more top six* teams for the two at-large selections in the BCS.
Should a team from a conference which does not have an automatic selection or an independent be ranked in the top six* and Notre Dame also has a record of at least 9 wins** or is ranked in the top ten*, the bowls shall select one of these two teams.

Anderson is only the second Silver Streak male athlete to win the prestigious Don Morris Memorial Award since it was instituted in 1984 in memory of Morris, a Hall of Fame basketball coach and athletic director at Alleman High.
