Info and facts on 'Big-character poster'
Big-character posters or (dazibao) were posters, limited-circulation newspapers, excerpted press articles, and pamphlets using large-sized ideographs.
These signs became ubiquitous during the Cultural Revolution and were later guaranteed as one of the "four big rights" in the 1975 state constitution.
Their use was even more frequent after 1949 to publicize party programs and as a means of protest.

During the “Democracy Wall” movement in 1978 and 1979, hundreds of people posted so-called big-character posters on a wall in Beijing to protest against political corruption, injustice, and lack of political freedom.
Although it initially encouraged criticism of previous government policies, the government closed the wall when posters critical of the existing Communist leadership and the Communist system began appearing and imprisoned the author of some of the most outspoken posters, Wei Jingshen.
Zhao Ziyang, the CCP general secretary (as the top party post had been called since 1982), had been sympathetic to the students and in the ensuing political crackdown he was dismissed from his party posts.

Idiom in exile -- Bei Dao
The abrupt rise of Bei Dao and his agitational action came in Beijing in 1978, when he founded an underground literary publication, Today, and publicized his work through big-character posters.
Maybe Bei Dao is not himself aware that in his tendency towards development of a pure art form, that when he has lost interest in the political expression of China, or when he declines to express a political attitude towards matters Chinese, he has already begun to gradually lose his unique character as a Chinese.
And what Bei Dao represents is a token that piques people's curiosity in the world's largest literary casino, the Nobel Prize in Literature, in which the selection committee has been unable to come up with a Chinese laureate deserving of esteem in the twentieth century -- a whole hundred years.

So much so that they began reworking "Aladdin" so that the Genie went from a minor supporting role in the film to a part that was almost as big as the title character's.
After all, the Genie was just a supporting role in "Aladdin." So Robin asked that all ads for Disney's film reflect that reality, and not give the false impression that the animated film somehow starred Williams' character.
It was only later that Williams learned that thousands of these huge blue Genie posters had been created and had been installed in bus shelters all over the country, where they remained up for the entire time "Aladdin" was in theaters.

Bratz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Bratz fans appreciate that the dolls feature characters of many ethnicities, most of no specific background, and that each is given her own name and set of clothing and accessories, instead of the long-time practice of doll manufacturers making their blonde and African-American dolls variants of the same character.
The Bratz Babyz were not immune to complaints, either, especially the "Babyz Night Out" fashion pack, the "Brattoo Parlor" playset, and the fact that the Big Babyz wear something under their skirts that looks like a thong.
Bratz Cloe, Yasmin, Jade, Sasha, and Roxxi (sold exclusively with the Rock Angelz Concert Stage) were dressed in 70's inspired rock attire, and each girl had a guitar and a mini CD single including 2 songs (one character exclusive song and the other 'So Good' the lead single).

The big-character posters mainly called for two things: first, for the total rehabilitation of Deng Xiaoping and then for the rehabilitation of other senior revolutionaries and of the activists at the demonstrations in Tiananmen Square in l976; and second, for a reappraisal of Mao Zedong.
At the end of l978 just when the media were filled with articles regarding the "two whatevers," the Democracy Wall posters began to appear at Xidan in Beijing.
The fact that these events were occurring concurrently alarmed the leaders; they were not afraid of the activists in and of themselves, but what the leaders most feared was that the activists would receive support from within the party and the two groups would unite together.

In March, Big Character posters, now illegal, appeared at Qinghai university and at Beida, calling for the dismantling of the CCP and for "Democracy, Freedom, and Human Rights." Because the text on these characters was remarkably similar we think that this is indicative of an organized anti-party conspiracy.
Heartened by this response to their campaigns, the students organized the "Beijing Federation of Autonomous Student Unions in Universities and Colleges" and issued "Order No. 1" in which they urge their membership to organized a march on Tiananmen Square.
It is clearly their intention to provoke massive outpourings of grief similar to those which occurred at Qing Ming at the memorialization of the death of Comrade Zhou Enlai and began the campaigns which ultimately overthrew the Gang of Four.

Confessions of a Spoiler Whore - The pleasures of participatory TV. By Emily Nussbaum
Ever!") The most startling such shout-out occurred just last week, when Aaron Sorkin, The West Wing creator who sparred with posters on Television Without Pity (back when it was called "mighty big tv"), struck back at his tormentors—by enlisting them in a subplot on his show.
And indeed, the online fan base does occasionally have a direct effect on the show, in the convention known as the "shout-out": a character named after an online poster, a playful reference to an Internet joke, or occasionally, a direct satire of the online herd.
When White House Deputy Chief of Staff Josh Lyman discovers a critical Web site devoted to him, he becomes tangled in its byzantine internal politics, then (like Sorkin) sees one of his posts end up in the newspapers.
