Bijapur District, formerly called Kaladgi district, was established by the British after 1848, when the former princely state of Satara was annexed to the Bombay Presidency, and the district included present-day Bijapur and Bagalkot districts.
Bijapur City is the capital of the district and is located 530 km northwest of Bangalore.
Bijapur is a district in the Indian state of Karnataka.

On their resentments to be in Bagalkot district, the action committee leaders stated that their villages were far from Bagalkot which has been headquarters of district and it would really be strenuous for their people to reach Bagalkot and get their works done.
The people of 28 villages also had boycotted a function marking formation of Bagalokot district, last year, the leaders said.
