Connors' edgy and emotive fusion-fired axe work in the 70s and 80s was marvelous, blistering and a raw, well-honed treasure to hear.

Bill Connors has spent the last 30 years moving through a myriad of phases of both popular and progressive jazz; most notably, Connors’ leading role in Chick Corea’s Return to Forever and his monumental work on “Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy”.
Connors’ guitar swoons around O’Connell’s keys, while held fast by Plainfield’s precise drumwork; the melody traverses from the guitar to the piano and back again as Goines’ bass slurs around in its own sweet time — absolutely fantastic track to break the ice.
The ensuing “Minor Matters” from Connor himself appears to be a pseudo-throwback and/or breakdown (or vice-versa) of the previous piece; O’Connell and Connor taunt the other, while Plainfield’s kit accents the dancing melodies with absolute precision.

The new record finds both Bills playing lines that are almost too smooth, requiring conscious listening to reveal the tricks behind them.
O’Connell has played a good deal with Sonny Rollins, and, according to Connors, that’s how O’Connell “learned to be supportive.” (Rollins is known for demanding supporting roles from his group.) But Connors is equally strong in supportive roles, such as interpreting O’Connell’s cascading tunes.

If you were listening to electric jazz fusion in the early 1970s, you may remember Bill Connors as the original guitarist when Chick Corea took his Return to Forever band into the high voltage electric arena.
Connors played on only one RTF album, Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy, a powerhouse of supercharged rock rhythms and breakneck jazz soloing, a more melodic successor to John McLaughlin’s similarly structured Mahavishnu Orchestra outings.
Connors could’ve gone on to become a guitar god, as did his replacement in Corea’s group, Al DiMeola.

As far as soloing goes, I think that Allan is much more creative, but Bill is still pretty darn good.
I have several of Bill Connors albums and I would have to say that this one is my favorite with Step it and Assembler right behind.

Bill connor is one of those guitarist, that never loses his fresh approch to music.from his fast riffs in return to foever to his dazzling pharses; complicated yet easy if you know what i mean god bless you bill!
Most of the songs seemed to be more vehicles and vamps for blowing on as opposed to full-fledged compositions.
Not bad but not one of Bill's best either.
