Davis was appointed to Robarts's cabinet as Minister of Education on October 25, 1962, and was re-elected by a greatly increased margin in the 1963 provincial election.
Davis' role in the constitutional negotiations of 1981 were pivotal in achieving a compromise that resulted in the passage of the 1982 Constitution.
Davis was made a Companion of the Order of Canada in 1985, and has served on numerous corporate boards since his retirement from politics.

Davis said he had hoped to move the amended bill to the House floor for reconsideration right away, but opponents of the measure used a procedural maneuver to delay it.
Davis’ version of the bill is meant to win support from Republicans and doctors with a key addition: caps on some lawsuit awards.

 Davis Signs Bill Giving Ownership Of Courthouses to State
Gray Davis waited until nearly the last minute but yesterday signed into law a host of bills affecting courts and the practice of law, including a measure that for the first time gives the courts, and not the counties, ownership and management of courthouses.
Davis was joined by Chief Justice Ronald M. George for the signing of Senate Bill 1732, which shifts governance of more than 450 court buildings around the state to the Judicial Council.
Measures Davis signed over the weekend and yesterday included AB 2574, a bill to bar financial conflicts of interest between  private judging companies and their “clients” in consumer  arbitrations.  In an earlier form, several more sweeping arbitration reform bills would have, among other things, prevented state judges from becoming arbitrators for a year after retirement.

Davis was instrumental in Brandywine's conversion from a half mile to a five-eighths mile racetrack and rebuilding its clubhouse into a state-of-the-art facility in 1969.
Davis was also a consultant and builder for most of the hundreds of private training tracks located in an area from central New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware to Maryland's Eastern Shore.
Davis retired from Brandywine in 1985 and until recently served as a consultant or was available when called upon by a number of horsemen and raceways with either building or racetrack problems.

Actually, Bill Davis Racing hasn’t commented on the split at all as of this writing, and they aren’t the ones who made the revealing statements to the press.
Apparently, Bill Davis Racing may not be aware of the agreements either, or they wouldn’t have blatantly broken them or they just don’t care.
The fact that Davis is staying mum on the situation leads one to wonder it there’s a legal battle brewing between the two entities.

The bill was proposed to combat racial profiling -- pulling over a driver simply because of race -- by requiring police officers to file reports on all motorists they pull over.
The bill Davis vetoed would have ordered the California Highway Patrol, starting July 1, 2000, and ending in 2003, to report the number of drivers stopped for traffic violations, whether a citation was issued, the race or ethnicity of the driver, and the reason for the stop.
Instead of signing the bill, Davis said he was directing the CHP to record data on all traffic stops made by Highway Patrol officers starting January 1, 2000.
