William Geoffrey Fiske, Baron Fiske (July 3, 1905 - January 13, 1975), commonly known as Bill Fiske, was the first Leader of the Greater London Council and oversaw the decimalisation of the Pound Sterling as Chairman of the Decimal Currency Board.
Fiske became popular among his colleagues in the Labour Group and in 1960 he was elected as Chief Whip, deposing Freda Corbet who had held the job for 12 years and was a close ally of the Labour leader Isaac Hayward.
Fiske carried on a policy of subsidies for the arts, and it was under his leadership that the decision was made to build the Royal National Theatre on the South Bank site.

Billy Fiske (William Meade Lindsley Fiske III; June 4, 1911 – August 17, 1940) was an American notable for his achievements in the 1928 Winter Olympics, as well as being the first American pilot casualty of World War II during the Battle of Britain.
Although the RAF would only accept applicants of British citizenship, Fiske was able to gain entry by filing false information claiming Canadian citizenship, and by working personal connections within the organization.
Fiske was laid to rest in the Boxgrove cemetery in Sussex, England.

Alden McClain, of Carthage:  The Bill Fiske mentioned in a recent column as having been the former owner and editor of Bill Fiske's Bugle, the Clay County paper for many years, was the son of Moses Fiske.
Evidently Bill Fiske's father was either a son or a grandson of the original Moses Fisk, the member of the first County Court of Smith County.
Fisk sent by the State of Tennessee to determine in more correct manner, in concert with the Commissioner of Virginia, the boundary between the two States.

Bill and Mary Schofield Eberle began doing research with Arthur Fiske when his Library was still housed on Queen Anne Hill.
Bill was very involved with the move to the Pioneer Building and built some of the tall 6 foot fl bookcases that the Library still uses.
Bill recalls that Arthur told him that “this is what we should all do” with our family research.

One of the beneficiaries, winning the furthest eastern borough Havering, was William (Bill) Fiske who became the Leader of the Labour Group and therefore Leader of the Council.
The residual Labour Group, finding itself without a Leader due to the defeat of Sir Bill Fiske, fell back on Reg Goodwin, a decision which was to have profound consequences later.
A special bill paving the way for abolition was therefore put through to cancel the elections, and substitute a joint board of borough councillors for the GLC in its final year.
