Bill Gallo is a famed cartoonist and newspaperman for the New York Daily News.
Gallo was also awarded the Page One Journalism Award from the New York Newspaper Guild 20 times, the Power of Printing Award, Segar Award (as outstanding Cartoonist in 1975), and the Achievement Award for Alumni from the School of Visual Arts.
Gallo, who is also a columnist, received the James J. Walker Award from the Boxing Writers Association, and the Champions Award from the Downtown Athletic Club.

It seems Gallo is trying not to be not all things to all people but this particular double self: one who is not short on intelligence yet one who is hip to the world at large.

Drawing a Crowd, written by Phil Cornell, a copy editor at The Daily News, is a celebration of those four decades, and Gallo's uncanny ability to render sports stories into insightful, single-frame drawings.
Gallo's stylized truth-telling even got through to Muhammad Ali, who used a Gallo cartoon, depicting a corpulent Ali pushing his own stomach around in a wheelbarrow, as motivation to get back into shape.
Gallo's superior saw it, and said, "From now on, do it your way." The sports world is richer for it.
