Bill Gammell, chief executive of the Edinburgh oil and gas company, said that while he was seeking partners to develop Cairn’s offshore holdings in eastern India, it would fund the western projects itself.
Gammell said the latest drilling results from Rajasthan had shown a "shallow oil discovery" and Cairn was looking at further developments to spin off from the discovery.
Gammell added that the latest discovery had encouraged the firm to accelerate its drilling programme, and it was considering bringing another rig into the area.
