Reno: Anti-leak bill won't sharply increase prosecutions   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
Reno told her weekly news conference, as she had told Congress earlier, that "such an act would not result in a dramatically increased number of leak prosecutions," because the lack of prosecutions did not stem from the gap in existing law but rather from the difficulty in determining who leaked the information.
The only leak prosecution in recent memory occurred in 1985 when a Navy researcher was prosecuted for leaking a satellite photo of a Soviet Navy ship under construction to the publication, Jane's Fighting Ships.
She said the bill was initiated by Congress and then narrowed at Justice Department request.
