  Jon Pertwee - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pertwee was also a comic actor, with roles such as the conniving Officer Pertwee in The Navy Lark on BBC Radio and in another radio comedy series Waterlogged Spa.
Pertwee was an officer in the Royal Navy, spending some time working in naval intelligence during the Second World War.
Pertwee would continue to act in films and television as well as make appearances world-wide in support of Doctor Who until his death, aged 76, from a heart attack whilst on holiday in the American state of Connecticut on May 20, 1996 (some reports, however, place the location of his death in New York).

It wouldn't be the seventies in Britain without a good strike, and that's what happens when Bill refuses to join the engineers' union and persuades his fellow fl workers to do the same, leading to the white workers, headed by Eddie of course, to walk out and demand that they re-join.

Mr Pertwee, who played the bullish air raid warden in the legendary BBC TV series, was at the school to enjoy its fun day and visit the air raid shelters, which were open to the public for the first time in 60 years.
The shelters were revealed earlier this year in the grounds of the Pendleton Road school, and are said to be the best archeological find in the area for a long time.
