Who the hell is Bill Plympton?
Plympton's second live-action feature,"Guns On the Clackamas", a behind-the-scenes look at an imaginary disastrous Western, was shot in Oregon and New York.
Plympton says the idea came from the 1937 movie "Saratoga", in which star Jean Harlow died during the filming and a stand-in was used to finish.
Plympton's short films continue to be shown in animation festivals around the world, and he has also released a comic book featuring "The Sleazy Cartoons of Bill Plympton".

Plympton - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Plympton, or Plympton Erle, in south-western Devon, England is an ancient stannary town: an important trading centre in the past for locally mined tin, and a former seaport (before the River Plym silted up and trade moved down the river to Plymouth).
Reynolds was lord mayor of Plympton, as well as being its Member of Parliament, and the first president of the Royal Academy of Art.
Railway facilities were originally provided at Plympton — for goods traffic only — by the horse-drawn Plymouth and Dartmoor Railway, but their branch was closed and sold to the South Devon Railway to allow them to build a line from Exeter to Plymouth.

Bill Plympton - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Plympton is considered the first animator to draw every frame for an animated feature film entirely by himself.
As of 2006, Plympton has created 26 animated short films, 5 animated features, and has just announced another feature.
Plympton usually publishes a comic book of his feature before he releases the feature to raise money for the film.

Plymptoons - The Classic Works of Bill Plympton (Special Edition) DVD Review
Plympton's earliest films indicate that he experimented with a variety of techniques--cutouts, cel animation, stop motion--before finding his personal style: colored pencil drawings on paper to illustrate bizarre, metamorphic transitions that build to an absurd climax.
Plympton is not a great animator: he uses only four to six drawings per second, less than a Saturday-morning series (full, Disney-style animation requires 12 to 24 drawings per second), and his attempts to tell a coherent story through his drawings invariably fizzle.
Bill's commentary is the reading of some notes at the beginning of each short, some technical, some biographical, all interesting in spite of the monotone in which it is delivered.

 No Apologies
In Bill Plympton's world, flesh is infinitely malleable, and that flexibility becomes the occasion for obscenely funny vignettes on the twin themes of sex and violence (actually the title of one of Plympton's shorts).
Plympton's previous feature, The Tune (1992), used a struggling songwriter's quest for success as the frame story for a somewhat loosely bound collection of set pieces, from musical numbers to segments that had already been exhibited as short subjects on their own.
While enjoyable enough in a modest way, the movie lacked the bite of Plympton's best work, and the sequences that did work, such as one in which two suit-clad men devise increasingly intricate means of destroying each other, seemed so disconnected from the story that their arbitrary placement was distracting.

 Bill Plympton: Animated Shorts
Bill Plympton's first use of live-action with animation, this quirky story is about an ill-fated romance between a drawing line and his model, using a rare technique of drawing the animation under the camera as a unique way to tell a story.
Although the film has yet to be released, Bill was able to put the excerpts together in an amusing chase short starring a hipster dog named Boney D. In 1992 Bill was commissioned to do interstitials for the Fox TV show "The Edge", starring Julie Brown and Jennifer Aniston.
Many of Bill's earlier animated shorts are available on the Plymptoons cassette, and his later shorts are available on the Mondo Plympton cassette, both of which can be ordered on-line.

DVD Verdict Review - Plymptoons: The Classic Works Of Bill Plympton
According to the disc, "Chances are, you've seen Bill Plympton's animation everywhere." I would disagree since I've been sober all of my 32 years on this fragile rock called Earth, and can't recall tripping across anything he's done (including the MTV spots).
Bill is lucky that I'm not a Judge outside of this domain, for he wouldn't have won any awards with me on the panel.
As I said, there is a wealth of information on this disc about Bill and his Plymptoons, and I have no qualms in thoroughly recommending this DVD to someone who already appreciates his work, for, if you're a fan, you'll love the bounty of goodies on this disc.

Plympton experiments with different styles of animation for each song and succeeds splendidly.
For a tune sung by Didi, for example, Plympton switches from animating her whole face to just her eyes, nose, and mouth, which works well in the musical context.
