Bill Woodfull qualified as Bachelor of Arts with a Diploma of Education and was posted to the country, moving around the state until he achieved the top position of Principal at Melbourne High School.

Spot the ball: Cricket and colour-blindness
Initially, Harris and Cole had assumed that Ponsford had had mild deuteranomaly, which is the most common form of colour-blindness and the condition their five modern-day cricketers had.
However, one of Bill Ponsford's sons had said that his father had difficulty with traffic lights, which would indicate a more severe defect.
Their final diagnosis was that Ponsford had protanopia – a form of red–green colour-blindness usually resulting from the absence of a particular class of cone in the retina.

Bill Ponsford - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He is regarded as one of the finest players of spin bowling.
However, in 1934 Ponsford and Bradman, the two heaviest scorers in Australian cricket, finally fulfilled their joint promise by combining in two major partnerships.
Ponsford's batting suffered nothing in comparison with Bradman's among contemporary commentators, including Neville Cardus.

Ponsford celebrated his entry into the heavyweight division of cricket with 110 at Sydney followed by 128 at Melbourne against England in 1924-25.
Ponsford's stumps were scattered for 2 in the first and in the second he was caught behind for 6.
The selectors did not play Ponsford in all the five matches and though he essayed a very plucky innings of 85 in the third Test at Adelaide, it was apparent that Larwood caused much problems for Ponsford.

DM's Explanation of Cricket - History of Cricket
Ponsford's chosen method of dealing with Bodyline was to turn his back to balls aimed at him, and take the blows on his rump and back.
Bill Woodfull had been a guest in the Governor's box when the incident happened and, dressed in a business suit, he raced out of the box and strode out to the middle of the ground.
Bill Voce and Eddie Paynter were listening to the game in Paynter's hospital room, where he had spent most of the second day's play and all of the rest day.

All eyes were on Donald Bradman when Bill Woodfull's Australians arrived, but the 'Boy from Bowral' failed to make a serious impact on the series until bursting into life during the 4th Test at Headingley.
Their initial win owed much to the bowling of Bill O'Reilly and Clarrie Grimmett - another familiar name from the 1930 tour - as they shared 19 English scalps, but it was the match return of Hedley Verity at Lord's that stole the early headlines.
Together with Bill Ponsford (181) he added 388 for the Aussies' fourth wicket and only rain on the last day prevented a heavy defeat for Bob Wyatt's England.

Unfortunately, when Victoria replied to New South Wales' score of 221 at the MCG, Melbourne, in December 1926, their number five and six batsmen had only mustered 13 runs between them.
Happily, though, the other four, Bill Woodfull, Bill Ponsford, "Stork" Hendry and Jack Ryder had managed to 'cobble' together 133, 352, 100 and 295 runs respectively.
Strangely, despite their role in making history, the NSW bowlers seemed rather traumatised afterwards and wanted to measure Bill Ponford's bat because it had seemes so wide.
