Bill Sienkiewicz - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This shows the diversity of Sienkiewicz' work: the front cover is a fine-art oil painting portrait of one of the novel's characters, the back shows his more anarchic comicbook style.
Boleslav (William) Felix Robert Sienkiewicz, usually referred to simply as Bill Sienkiewicz, was born May 3, 1958 in Blakely, Pennsylvania, United States.
Sienkiewicz produced one-off covers for a range of Marvel titles, including Rom, Dazzler, The Mighty Thor, Return of the Jedi and The Transformers, and drew the comic adaptation of Dune.

 Bill Sienkiewicz
Sienkiewicz's methodology was more akin to, "if it ain't broke, break it anyway and start anew".
Sienkiewicz has worked for a variety of comic companies, including the "Big Two" -- Marvel and D.C. Sienkiewicz started his career fairly incospiciously, drawing one-off issues of Fantastic Four and The Uncanny X-Men for Marvel; and yes, his work was very much trenched in the Kirby tradition.
Perhaps not obvious to the layman's eye, Sienkiewicz's style is clearly derived from the abstract artistic stylings of Wassily Kandinsky.

Sienkiewicz: Elektra is probably the most fulfilling for inumerable reasons, but I do feel that the DD graphic novel is like the unfortunate sibling of the most beautiful and popular girl in school: deserved or not, Elektra got the lion's share of the attention.
Sienkiewicz: We were able to compress the book with any success at all by really treating it as more of a tone poem, rather than attempting to tell it in a full on sequential moment by moment manner.

Dave's Long Box: NEW MUTANTS #18 Marvel Comics, 1984
Sienkiewicz’s work on this comic and all of his New Mutants work really broadened my perception of the possibilities inherent in the medium, of what comics could be.
Sienkiewicz seemed to be as concerned with the techniques and materials of the medium as he was with what he was representing, bringing to mainstream comics what had already happened in painting, Pollack being one of the most notable examples, supported and driven by critics like Clement Greenburg.
I was aware of New Mutants, but the Sienkiewicz art (especially the cover to issue #20) looked "childish" to me. Thus, my 9-year old brain decided "messy" art and "kid x-men" equaled a book for little kids (and not for a big kid like me, surely).

Sure, Bill cut his teeth on Moon Knight in the early 80s, at the same time coming from out of the shadow of an obvious influence, Neal Adams.
But Bill is much more than a "comc book artist." To paraphrase the Mercedes commercial, just as you don't really try to compare a Pacer and a Benz, you don't put J. Scott Campbell in the same category as Bill.
Part of the reason of getting out was that "Bill Sienkiewicz was the innovator." It was sort of, "Give X, Y or Z to Bill." It was the old "Mikey likes it" commercial [for Life cereal].
