Summers contacted the city about receiving a credit on his bill, knowing the city's policy does not require residents to pay sewer charges for water used in lawn care and other outdoor use.
In Summers' case, he used 127 cubic feet of water and was charged for the water and for the sewer based on that same volume.

Currently, Dr. Summers is the Principal Investigator for a three-year study to assess the feasibility of nuclear hydrogen production for the DOE Office of Nuclear Energy, Science and Technology (DOE-NE).
Summers is also a member and site representative in the National Hydrogen Association, and represents SRTC on the Fuelcell Propulsion Institute Board of Directors, where he is a charter member.

In a last-minute bill not on the Undergraduate Council’s (UC) official agenda last night, a core group of representatives called for “free speech and open academic inquiry” in a nod to the controversy surrounding University President Lawrence H. Summers’ leadership of Harvard.
For a bill to be considered, two-thirds of the UC must vote for it.
But former UC treasurer Clay T. Capp ’06, who voted not to consider the bill, said that the issue was not the UC’s reluctance to get involved in the controversy, but faults of the bill itself.
