Billings is rapidly growing; As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 89,847, and a 2006 city estimate indicates the city's population has grown to 101,182 (up 10.9% or 11,281 since 2000).
Billings was founded in 1877 and established in 1882 in the Montana Territory near the already-existing town of Coulson.
Billings is surrounded by six mountain ranges, the Beartooth Mountains to the west, the Pryor Mountains and Bighorn Mountains to the south, the Crazy Mountains to the northeast, the Big Snowy Mountains to the north and the Wolf Mountains to the south east.

The Outlaws have never had a home playoff game and before this game, management announced that all paying customers would be admitted free next Saturday against Wyoming if the Outlaws lost.
Billings scored on its first possession to take a 7-0 lead and Sioux Falls came right back to tie it at 7-7 on its ensuing drive.
The Outlaws final score, a 12-yard TD from Higgs to Quinn in the corner of the end zone with 2:39 left in the contest, was helped out by two Sioux Falls' interceptions that weren't allowed because of defensive penalties.

BILLINGS, Mont. -- What was supposed to be an improved Wyoming Cavalry team didn't look like it on either side of the ball Friday night in a 56-20 season-opening loss to Billings.
Billings scored first on a 12-yard touchdown pass by Chris Dixon, but Wyoming came back and took a 14-10 lead with touchdown passes from Borba to Jason Quinn and Cory Grow.
Longoria and several other Billings players went to the Outlaws with O'Neal, who was the defensive coordinator and special teams coach for the Cavalry last year.

The indoor football franchise was known as the Billings Outlaws for four seasons prior to 2005.
Along with the name, the Outlaws are bringing back its dance team, the "Most Wanted.'' The dance team, for girls and women ages 16 and older, will hold auditions on Dec. 10-11 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Billings quarterback Danny Ragsdale was 20 of 29 passing for 304 yards and seven touchdowns.
The Outlaws were first down and goal on the Bandits' four-yard line on their first possession, but Ragsdale had two incomplete passes and two others only net three yards.
Billings scored 15 points - two touchdowns and a blocked PAT returned by Stacy Edwards for two points - in the final two minutes of the first half to take control of the game.

Billings' Robert Reed recovered the onside kick on the Rapid City 11 and the Jones' penalty put Billings on the Flying Aces' 5 where they ran out the clock.
Billings is currently reviewing the record books to determine what the official all-time open combine record is. The published NFL record is 43.

They were going to play as the Outlaws, but Billings took the name back before the season started.
The Outlaws play their home games in Billings, MT. As the Outlaws, the team made it the the Championship in 2002, before falling to the Greyhounds, 55-52.
The team was original known as the Outlaws, but the Billings Mavericks still owned the rights to their old name and decided to bring it back in 2006.
