Nelson subsequently went on to either play or record with such renowned artists as the Commodores, Chairmen of the Board, Lionel Richie, Smokey Robinson, Jermaine Jackson, Lenny Williams, Parlet, Fishbone, and the Temptations (the latter of which saw Nelson and Hazel unite for the group's 1975 hit, "Shakey Ground").

Both died of stomach cancer, which made Tiki say to Billy at his father's burial that he was the next to go.
But longtime friend Billy "Bass" Nelson convinced Tiki to play drums again, so he did, until he passed away on October 29, 1979 of stomach cancer.

Hey Y'all, post a happy 51st birthday message to Billy Bass Nelson and you can be sure he'll read it.
Billy is an original Funkadelic and a RnR Hall-of-Famer who played on a tremendous amount of Motown records in the 70's who was steady working in Detroit from '68-'73 before relocating to LA with Motown in '74 where he did session work with just about everybody for another 10 years.
I don't know if Billy lurks here but he's played with P-Funk All Stars on and off for the last few years...

One of my homies is trying to tell me they sold that bass line to Paul Shaffer, I aint trying to belive this, however have any of you guys ever heard the original mix of that cut.
As far as easy single key bass lines for beginners, how about "Another one bites the dust" Queen, or another easy jam is "Get down on it" by Kool and the Gang.
This is from the Impulse album titled "Coltrane," and the bass line is a classic example of "Less-is-More." Plus, Garrison takes one of his very few solos - not technically flashy, but very melodic - one that I can listen to over and over again.
