Billy Laughlin (William Robert Laughlin) (July 5, 1932 - August 31, 1948) played the character Froggy in the Our Gang short films in its final stretch, from 1940 to 1944.
His character was known for his strange, Popeye-esque guttural voice which was reminiscent of a frog's croak.
Tragically, Laughlin's life was cut short on August 31, 1948, when he was killed by a truck in La Puente, California while riding a motor scooter.

Billy Jack is a "warrior, a mystic, a martyr, capturing the heart and soul of a generation." Tom Laughlin plays Billy Jack, a "half-breed Native American and ex-Green Beret returning to live in solitude on an Arizona reservation." He gets involved with the Freedom School and the "idealistic woman" that is in charge of it.
Billy Jack finds her sleeping off her beating in the wilderness and takes her to the Freedom School-friendly doctor who fixes her up and everyone decides that it would be best if they hide her out at the Freedom School.
Billy gets his revenge on Martin and on Barbara's father who comes to take her away and Billy ends up holed up in a school where Jean shows up and sets him straight about love, hate, and that it's easy to die, but harder to live and keep trying.

Basically, Billy comes to the defense of one of the gang's victims, a college girl named Vicky (Elizabeth James), when the gang attempts to intimidate her from testifying against them.
Billy Jack wiped out the threat and so forth, which we must suppose was the point of the movie, but wouldn't people have felt better about themselves (people other than the gang's victims, that is) if the gang had been given more time for inspections to work?
Tom Laughlin may not be the greatest actor ever, but the movies he made (writing, directing, starring...he does everything) show a man that can and will kick [rear] when the going gets tough, and also fights for the right cause every time.

Laughlin was not well liked in Hollywood and he had certainly lost a lot of his Billy Jack fan base.
The success of Billy Jack went to Laughlin's head and he burned a lot of bridges talking about how he was single handedly responsible for its success and he knew how to make important films that spoke to the people.

The same ideas and goals were expressed by Laughlin in 6.20.05 article by N.Y. Times reporter Sharon Waxman, and it makes you wonder if he'll be proposing the same package -- he's trying to raise $12 million -- 18 or 36 or 72 months hence.
Laughlin is the original tough-minded independent, but he sounds like a street- corner nutter when he writes that his film will contain "four exciting, highly-charged love stories, with a unique focus on the difference between sex and eros and violence in human relationships -- especially among teenagers, including the problem of abortion.
I completely agree with Laughlin 100% that the three greatest evils afflicting this country right now are (a) corporate oligarchs, (b) totalitarian neo-con agendas and (c) false evangelicals.
