 Billy McNeill
Billy McNeill's assessment of the impact to be made at Celtic Park by the arrival of Jock Stein in 1965 was prophetic.
Billy McNeill graduated to become the most successful captain in the club's history and the undisputed leader on the park of inarguably the best Celtic team of all time.
McNeill again proved to be up to the task asked of him by Celtic and he duly delivered the League and Cup double in the club's Centenary Year of 1987/1988.

 Keep-The Faith
Billy, the captain since 1963, a married man with children, toyed with the idea of leaving his beloved Celtic for Tottenham Hotspur, but in early 1965 Jock Stein returned as Manager.
Billy was Jock's voice on the park, and how appropriate it was that on that bright spring day of 1965 it should be the golden head of Billy McNeill who rose above the Dunfermline defence to head home Celtic's glorious winner in the Scottish Cup Final!
Lisbon was a McNeill creation, notably in the Quarter Final when the golden head once again won the day against Vojvodina, and the nine League titles in a row would not have been achieved without Celtic's King Billy.

All McNeill had to do to stay out of jail was to check with his probation officer for periodic drug urinalysis tests and pay $250 in court costs in $50-permonth installments.
Another argument that Attorney Herzog used to keep McNeill out of jail in 2003 was that the young man had become predisposed to using pain killers after suffering a jaw injury during a scuffle when he was a student at Key West High School in 1996.
An internal investigation was conducted and Capt. McNeill was subsequently reprimanded by Chief Peterson.

BILLY McNeill has been involved in professional football longer than the life expectancy of the average Victorian.
McNeill’s achievements as a player and a manager - league championships, cups, European triumph and 29 Scotland caps - tend to be remembered in vivid colour, but his personal recollections are strewn with shades of grey, even fl.
McNeill’s sacking by the Parkhead club in 1991, four years after he had returned and run into the impossibility of competing with a resurgent, apparently endlessly resourced Rangers under Graeme Souness, was drenched in an acrimony that still rankles.

My favourite McNeill story was when he was asked to comment on Souness’s (then Huns manager) bleating on that being an Old Firm Manager he could never enjoy a quiet meal in a restaurant in Glasgow with his wife.
McNeill replied that he had heard that comment, a waiter had told him whilst he was having a quiet meal in a restaurant in Glasgow with his wife.
