Billy Papke, the son of German immigrants to the USA, was an abnormally hard man. He had 4 fights with Stanley Ketchel and won the second, and the World Middleweight title, largely by the expedient of punching Ketchel in the throat when he stepped forward to shake hands.
He lost the other 3 of which the 4th was a particularly savage encounter.
After Ketchel's death Papke was one of several middleweights contesting the right to be called World Middleweight Champ.

He proceeded to retain the title against Mike's twin brother, "Jack Twin Sullivan," also a former world champion, by a knockout in 20, against future world champion Billy Papke by decision in 10, against Hugo Kelly by a knockout in three, and against Thomas, by a knockout in two.
Then, he lost the belt to Papke by a knockout in twelve, but he and Papke had an immediate rematch, and Ketchel recovered the title when he beat Papke by a knockout in eleven in their third match.
He beat Papke in their fourth bout by a decision in 20 to retain the title, and then challenged Johnson for the world's Heavyweight crown.

Papke and Ketchel fought three times in a ten months period from September 7, 1909 to July 5, 1910.
Papke won the first, most believed because as the fight was about to begin and Ketchel extended his gloved hand to touch gloves Papke knocked him reeling, a punch from which Ketchel did not recover.
Papke would knock out Willie Lewis in Paris in 3 rounds and begin a string of five victories, four by knockout By year end, Stanley Ketchel would be dead, and Billy Papke would once again be recognized as Middleweight Champion of the World.

Battling his way from the coal mines to the middleweight championship of the world, Spring Valley, Illinois' Papke turned pro in 1905 and quickly made a name for himself as a terrific puncher with fantastic left hook and plenty of courage.
In the second bout (Sept. 7th) Papke scored a 12th round TKO and the world title.
Following Ketchel's untimely death in 1910, Papke claimed the world title and beat Jack (Twin) Sullivan and Georges Carpentier before unsuccessfully challenging Frank Klaus for the vacant title in 1913.

The fact that the Billy Papke listed on boxrec.com has a 0-0 record looks fishy to me. I am glad you guys noticed this.
