Billy comes from a musical family which includes his father Bobby, who was a big band leader, his mother Phyllis who is a singer and drummer, and brother Michael who is a pianist, keyboardist, and singer.
Billy's music career started with a band that he formed with his brother Michael while growing up in Las Vegas.
Billy was also brought in by Toto to sing and play bass on their Kingdom of Desire album.

Conspiracy is the name adopted by Chris Squire and Billy Sherwood and The Unknown is the second album from this pair.
This album is a far better mix of the two styles of Chris Squire and Billy Sherwood and as such is perhaps more representative of the duo that the previous album which unsurprisingly sounded not unlike the Yes album Open Your Eyes.
For a second album Squire and Sherwood have turned in quite a piece of work and certainly a step on from the debut of around three years ago.

Only the foolhardy would purchase this album expecting Squire to serve up a second Fish out of Water and most — no, make that pretty much all — of this disc can be found basking in the countryside of standard, modern AOR.
Even as a Yes fan, this is a disc on which you can securely pass, unless you absolutely have to hear it.

Billboard 8/9/05 - Several veteran rock artists have teamed to record a track-by-track tribute to Pink Floyd's "The Wall." Due Sept. 27 via the Cleopatra Records' Purple Pyramid imprint, "Back Against the Wall" boasts the participation of Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson, the Doors' Robby Krieger and Yes' Rick Wakeman, Chris Squire and Steve Howe.
Another former Yes alum, Billy Sherwood, produced the tribute, which also features King Crimson's Adrian Belew and Tony Levin, ELP's Keith Emerson, Styx's Tommy Shaw and Toto's Steve Lukather, as well as actor Malcolm McDowell, who provides spoken dialogue.
"All the artists involved poured their hearts and soul into this body of work and it shows," Sherwood says.
