Crazy Horse (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The band began in 1962 as the doo wop group Danny and the Memories, with Danny being guitarist Danny Whitten, and counting future Crazy Horse stalwarts Billy Talbot and Ralph Molina as members, the latter two the only individuals present in every incarnation of the band.
Talbot and Molina drafted several musicians to replace Whitten, bringing back George Whitsell and several others for the pair of Crazy Horse albums from 1972, but by mid-year Whitten had begun to unravel.
That same year, Crazy Horse, down again to Talbot and Molina, announced Frank "Poncho" Sampredo as their new guitarist, his recording debut with the band being Young's Zuma album of 1975.

Talbot's gravely voice is even shakier than Young's, but it's far from unpleasant, and has a razored charm all its own.
Produced by Talbot and Mark Humphreys, the small-group setting, with plenty of volume, warmth and immediacy places Talbot's songs in fine light.
Talbot is a subtle lyricist; he lets his word fall into his melodies and arrangements without effort, whispering atop the barely contained roar of the music.

The Music Box: Billy Talbot Band - Alive in the Spirit World (Album Review)
Alive in the Spirit World, bass player Billy Talbot’s debut with his eponymous band, may not be perfect, but it does fare better than much of Crazy Horse’s infrequent, and rather spotty, outings without Neil Young.
Not surprisingly, none of the songs in the collection would feel out of place within the latter artist’s repertoire, and this is, perhaps, the set’s biggest weakness.
On occasion, Talbot does introduce an interesting twist to the tried and true formula — Painting of a Man is shaded lightly with colors drawn from The Beach Boys’ palette; Security Girl is splattered with spastically psychedelic mayhem; and Rainy Days hints at how a joint venture between Keith Richards and Pink Floyd might sound.
