Billy was arrested and his passport seized because the woman who owned the house where we had been living claimed that we had done $3,000 worth of to her house.
Billy's lawyer got up and asked the judge "How many old ladies would you find in a hotel foyer at 5 am anyway?" Billy was fined 50c the court case was over..

In 1964 "Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs" not only had 4 singles in the top twenty at the same time but dominated the record charts with the Beatles in late 1964, with both bands having three singles in the top ten at the same time.
When Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs broke up in late 1965 another group was formed and along came another string of hits including "Love Letters"," I Told The Brook" and "Twilight Time".
In 1974 Billy and the band became the first rock band to perform at the Sydney Opera House and celebrated it with a hit live recording of the event.

The basic line-up on the album was Thorpe, Matthews and New Zealander Billy Kristian (bass; ex-Max Merritt and the Meteors), aided by the likes of Warren Morgan (keyboards, by then a member of John Paul Young and the All Stars).
Billy Thorpe’s first book, Sex and Thugs and Rock’n’Roll, turned out to be a rollicking good read, and went on to sell over 150 000 copies.

All this glowing praise that I heap on Billy is due to the fact that he has the incredible ability to make the sometimes overdone and unoriginal sounds of blues-influenced rock sound fresh and alive.
At first, Billy wasn't interested and dismissed the idea but after much persistence by the promoter, he was talked into returning to Australia, reuniting the band and playing one last gig.
