A veritable youngster, Pepi Lavec has 16 wins, $779,227 ($434,231 as a three-year-old) in purse earnings and a mark of 1:56 for Campbellville’s Glengate Farms and Parkhill Stud Farms in Peterborough.
The event is named after the horse with the mixed-up name, Billyjojimbob, a Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame inductee, 1995, the first Canadian-bred horse to win the Elitlopp Trot in Sweden and winner of two O’Brien Awards for Canada’s aged Trotting Horse of the Year in 1991 and 1992.
A son of Balanced Image, BJ was bred and trained by Mike Wade and owned by his wife, Lori Wade who live in Little Britain, ON, near Kawartha Downs.

The 15 year-old gelding whose fairy tale story captivated harness racing fans around the world in the early 1990s, was found dead in his paddock at Mike Wade’s Little Britain farm this morning.
It is a fitting final resting spot for the trotter whose performances on the racetrack enabled his owner Lori Wade and trainer/breeder Mike Wade to buy the property in 1992, the peak of his career.
A son of Balanced Image, Billyjojimbob almost died from salmonella poisoning before his career even began.
