The most moving scene is when he announces he too has played along with the boys in a bet they had going, offering his own insight and showing he’s not as crass as he wanted them to believe; he too has sincere motives.
Jerome is still trying to fulfill his four goals, and on his quest encounters a hooker named Rowena (played by Sara Leach), who is a charming character in the sense that she knows who she is and just doesn’t care; she appears to be carelessly having fun.

I gathered from his post-concert comments that he thought J'ville was a stronger performance than Biloxi, but you couldn't prove it by me. The Biloxi concert was one of the most incredible instances of audience interaction that I have ever witnessed.
The first acoustic number, Tangled Up in Blue, created a nice emotional melt- down for the audience & since our sound was mostly monitor mix, the sing along refrain was clearly audible.

The film version of Biloxi Blues retains the wit and poignancy of the theatrical original--except towards the end, which pointlessly emphasizes a showdown between Eugene and Toomey.

In Biloxi Blues, the sequel to Brighton Beach Memoirs, the year is 1943 and Eugene is on his way to boot camp in the South.
The setting definitely helps to add something to the story; Biloxi is very different from Brighton Beach and Eugene finds that out very quickly.
Although World War II doesn’t play a direct part, the war is always lingering in the minds of the men and that is easily sensed.

The typical cast of barracks boys is presented: a crazy sergeant, a bigoted tough guy, a highly principled Jew, etc. They joke around, fight, visit a whorehouse, etc. The vignette-like scenes are stagey and for the most part sentimental and nostalgic, but many of them work okay.

Part 2 of Neil Simon's semiautobiographical theater trilogy about his growth from adolescence into adulthood, this film was a vast improvement over the film version of Brighton Beach Memoirs.
Not only were the two of them in the film production of Biloxi Blues together, but had performed the play together on Broadway as well.
This was about 5 years ago, and I was thrilled to see the two of them were still friends.

BILOXI BLUES came out in 1988, with Matthew Broderick as the lead, and three years later, the TV movie BROADWAY BOUND closed off the triad, with Corey Parker as the protagonist.
Several divergent young recruits highlight his group of trainees, as well as an abusive drill sergeant who will stop at nothing to discipline this naïve set of youths.
