"Bilston, celebrated for its extensive coal and iron works, is a populous market town and township, in the parish, union, county court district and parliamentary borough of Wolverhampton.
Until 1824, Bilston had long enjoyed the reputation of being one of the largest villages in England, but in that year it was converted into a market town, by an Act of Parliament, under which a market is held every Monday and Saturday.
Bradley is a small village and manor in the township of Bilston, one mile SE of the town, remarkable for its extensive coal and iron works.

Bilston was first mentioned in the Domesday Book as a village called Billestune, being a largely rural area until the nineteenth century.
A Bilston Urban District Council was formed in 1894 under the Local Government Act 1894 covering the ancient parish of Bilston.
In 1966 the borough of Bilston was abolished, with most of its territory annexed to the county borough of Wolverhampton (see History of West Midlands).

It became so severe that by the late 1960's, the government had drawn up plans for a new dual carrigeway bypassing Bilston (and running from the A4123 near Coseley to Junction 10 of the M6 at Walsall) which was scheduled to be completed by 1976.

Dennis Turner, Baron Bilston (born 26 August 1942) is a Labour and Co-operative politician in the United Kingdom and was a Member of Parliament from 1987 until 2005.
He was educated at Stonefield Secondary Modern and Bilston College of Education, worked as a market trader and steelworker, and later ran a social club.
On 13 May 2005 it was announced that he would be created a life peer, and on 20 June 2005 the title was created as Baron Bilston, of Bilston in the County of West Midlands.

 Bilston
Bilston is located 2½ miles south-east of Wolverhampton.
The name "Bilston" is derived from the name of a tribe of Angles - "The Bilsaeton" or "Bilsonii", who came up the Trent Valley and settled here in the 6th Century.
Bilston is also known internationally for its delicately decorated products, such as enamelware, which flourished between between 1730 and 1830, and japanware (goods made either of papiermaché or tinplate and varnished to give a high-gloss finish.) Japanning was a dead art by 1900, though it has recently been revived by Bilston Enamels.

Bilston Foundries, on its original site in the Highfields area of Bradley, was in a district steeped in industrial history and fully serviced by road and canal.
Bilston Foundries was a firm where families were employed, fathers, sons, brothers; and where an entire family would be part of, say, a moulding or a slinging gang.
By the mid 1980s the firm, by now known as Vogue Baths, was in trouble and the final bath was cast on 28th June 1985 and the Batmanshill factory finally closed on 30th August 1985.

 Wolverhampton's Architectural Heritage
Bilston Town Hall, situated at the junction of Church Street and Lichfield Street, was built in 1872, designed by architects Bidlake and Lovatt.
Night classes were held at the town hall teaching such subjects as science and languages prior to their move to the new Technical School and School of Art in Mount Pleasant, Bilston.
This work on the building was a success, though 60 years later when Bilston became part of the Borough of Wolverhampton, the building ceased to be the headquarters of local government in the town.
