In popular computing, a binary computer file is one that is not human-readable, especially when referring to object code versus source code.
It is a common stereotype that only geeks can read binary code and/or pure object code, probably because a large amount of effort and knowledge (which only geeks would have the passion for) is needed to understand it directly.

Patent 5021971: Reflective binary encoder for vector quantization
A binary encoder for vector quantization is provided which comprises a plurality of identical two-level branch selectors connected in a turnaround cascade pipeline array.
A reflective binary encoder as set forth in claim 1 wherein each said associated upper and lower selectors of a two-level branch selector is provided with an associated memory containing code book vectors associated with the level of the code book tree being searched by the respective upper and lower selectors.
The novel two-level branch selector may be provided with on-chip memory or if additional memory is desired, the lower level selector of the two-level selector may utilize an external memory of commercially available chips of the size necessary to accommodate the size of the code book and the levels of search desired.

The neurophysiological basis for this novel learning algorithm is based upon the evidence from In-Vitro Reinforcement or IVR (Stein, 1997; Stein, 1995; Stein, 1994; Stein and Belluzzi, 1989), rather than the usual connectionist method based upon the neurophysiological evidence from Long-Term Potentiation or LTP (Bliss and Lømø, 1973; Bliss and Collingridge, 1993).
Because Clavier only accepts binary (yes/no) feedback on each cycle, the percentile reinforcement calculation is required to convert the latest distance measure into a binary signal by comparing how good or bad the current match is to the most recent matches on previous cycles.

 Binary Opposition
Making any idea that is novel the same as one that is heretical effectively prevents and circumvents the appearance of any notion that challenges accepted belief for as long as the dominant discourse, even if only among its own members, has the power to punish its wayward thinkers.
Hence, the ground is well established for the rise of the ideology of binary opposition and hierarchy in the single "fact" that God, as an All-Powerful entity, created the universe.
What is most obvious here as well is that power plays the dominant role in understanding how binary opposition and hierarchy are meant to function as aspects of all social relationships that evolve on the ground of these primary and immutable concepts.

A novel circuit combination comprised of small scale integrated (SSI) and medium scale integrated (MSI) integrated circuits (IC) for the filtering and passing of a selected pass band of passable frequencies and of a selected amplitude is disclosed.
The first binary signal is ANDed with the binary digital signal for gating out the binary digital signal to user equipment, while, alternatively, the second binary signal inhibits the gating of the binary digital signal to user equipment.
In this second embodiment, counter-comparator 30a includes a single binary counter 30-1 which is, in turn, coupled in parallel to K upper band edge detectors 30-3.sub.1 through 30-3.sub.k and to K lower band edge detectors 30-2.sub.1 through 30-2.sub.k.

Lessing's novel reveals that dualistic thinkingoccurs in the relationships between men and women, between colonizers andthe colonized, between soldiers on the battlefield, between parents andchildren, and between political party insiders and outsiders.
One way the novel depictsthis pervasiveness is by using the fragmentary quality of the novel tojuxtapose dualistic thinking in otherwise non-violent everyday life withsituations in which this thinking clearly involves physical violence.
For example, the novel mentions war as the catalyst formore mundane activity: the Spanish Civil War is the event during whichAnna's friend Molly and Molly's ex-husband Richard originally meet(16) and World War II is the reason for Molly's becoming a journalist(17).

Binary thinking operates on the notion that one term of an opposing pair will be privileged.
Sula is a novel which does indeed acknowledge all of the natural functions of the human body, what Bernard McElroy refers to as "the four irreducibles of human life.
Morrison seems to underscore this by populating her novel with fragmented characters, characters like Nel, whose sexuality is represented by "empty," "old thighs" (110-11); Shadrack, whose monstrous hands are a metaphor for his inability to reach out and touch other people (12); and the deweys, whose "magnificent teeth" signal their animal rapacity (84).

 The Baffling Binary Gigue
Thirteen of Froberger's gigues are written in binary notation and, according to Ferguson, it is supposed that they were nevertheless to be performed in either 12/8 or a very quick 3/4.
Froberger probably expected to work closely with the performer and therefore wrote the gigue out in binary, intending to show the performer how it was to be played‹supposing it really was to be performed in ternary rather than binary.
Even though Froberger notated the gigue in binary, he may also have expected that contemporaries would be familiar with the style in which gigues were performed, regardless of the score.

Generally, binary mixes are annealed at pre-determined temperatures and subsequently quenched in the hope of retaining phases and phase proportions which are characteristic of those at the annealing temperature.

The Rhetoric of Anticommunism in 'Invisible Man'
I share this uneasiness about the ending of Ellison's novel, but I don't think the epilogue is disjointed; rather I see it as the culmination of an embedded rhetoric that operates largely on subliminal levels throughout the text.
To test the "evidence" in a novel is of course tricky, since what is at issue are not "facts" as such but their felt representative quality and consequent rhetorical impact.
For the "socially responsible role" (568) that the invisible man discovers for himself at the novel's end entails participating with considerable historical specificity, and existential gusto, in the principal battle-royal of his day -- the exorcism of redness from the American body politic.

Silko constructs a binary world in which the Native American culture and white society appear incongruent, making it impossible for the Laguna people to assimilate into the hegemonic society while maintaining elements of their culture.
Silko proposes that the binary is more complicated than it appears and that Native Americans, like Tayo, must assimilate their culture into white society in order to preserve it.
Through Betonie’s voice, Silko undermines the simplicity of the binary, showing that the Native American existence is not dependent on the preservation of their culture, but on their ability to assimilate into the white hegemonic society.

By transforming the binary into functionally equivalent code that does not possess all the assumed properties, standard disassemblers are confused and fail to correctly translate binary code into its corresponding assembly representation.
In the current implementation, we scan the binary for byte sequences that represent instructions that push the frame pointer onto the stack and instructions that increase the size of the stack by decreasing the value of the stack pointer.
Note that the partitioning of the binary into functions is mainly done for performance reasons, and it is not crucial for the quality of the results that all functions are correctly identified.

 Types of novel
The novel is a humanist development, that looks at the complexities of life as lived in the everyday and does it through telling a story.
A general category for those novels which deny realism, which are poststructural in language, whose devices draw attention to the novel as a novel.
Also the good order of a realistic novel clashes with the disorder of society; the novelist should face the same dilemmas as say the social anthropologist who also faces the problem of the device that turns complexity into a readable account.

Morrison draws on the interplay between this binary oppositional characterization of Jadine and Son and the multiple interpretations that the roles of the trickster, the tar baby and the victim offer to deconstruct and subvert the either/or thinking that would characterize Jadine and Son in terms of either good or bad.
A second example in which Tar Baby establishes an interplay between this technique of binary oppositional characterization and the metafictional mode of multiple interpretations is illustrated with the narration of Son's thoughts as he hides on the Sea Bird II.
Her renditions of "reality" deconstruct the binary oppositional gender stereotypes, by revealing them to be based on fiction rather than fact.
