You See Greenberg? - One-State: Sound Political Strategy or Irresponsible Fantasy?
A democratic secular government for all of Palestine, with equal rights for all its inhabitants, regardless of religion or ethnicity, has come to be known as the “one-state solution”, (also referred to as the binational solution) and has been advocated by intellectuals and activists, but has little support from political officials, or the public.
The appeal for international support, on the basis of the concern for human rights, points to South Africa as a parallel case where a two-state solution to ethnic conflict did not work, when the fl population was contained into the borders of a ‘Bantustan’ by a white minority who dominated them unjustly.
To portray the one-state solution as a neutral appeal to a universal sense of justice and an ideal, which both Israel and Palestine should work and strive for together, is somewhat misleading.

It was met with bitter denunciation by the Israeli government and many Palestinians, with the Palestinian Authority staying non-committal, but it was warmly welcomed by many European governments and some significant elements of the Bush Administration including Secretary of State Colin Powell.
Yet another approach was proposed by a number of parties inside and outside Israel: a "binational solution" whereby Israel would formally annex the Palestinian territories but would make the Palestinian Arabs citizens in a unitary secular state.
Despite the long history of conflict between Israelis and Arabs, there are many people working on peaceful solutions that respect the rights of peoples on both sides.

 Martin Buber
His advocacy of a binational solution to the Jewish-Arab conflict in Palestine is widely considered to be an indication of the political utopianism Buber developed together with his friend Gustav Landauer, an aesthetic politics shaped in the anarchist and religious socialist movements of the first two decades of the twentieth century.
The preponderance in Buber's writings of abstract nouns such as “experience,” “realization,” and “encounter,” and his predilection for utopian political programs such as anarchism, socialism, and a bi-national solution to the conflict in Palestine point to a characteristic tension in his personality.
Some of the most dedicated students of this inspiring orator and writer found themselves irritated by the conflict between their master's ideas and their own attempts at putting them into practice.
