According to a 1997 survey conducted by the Bingham County Adult Probation Department, of the 188 residents on county probation for impaired driving, 69 (37 percent) were Hispanic.
In 1998, Hispanic offenders in Bingham County were supervised by probation officers that were not bicultural or bilingual.
The remaining ten Idaho counties with large Hispanic populations are currently being monitored by the Office of Highway Safety, to determine whether the use of a bilingual/ bicultural probation officer would also be warranted.

The Blackfoot Police Department, Bingham County Sheriff’s Department and the Southeastern District Health Department will be holding a press conference in the Bingham County Courthouse Law Enforcement section at 10:00 am on Wednesday, November 15th, 2000 to kick off the “Please Be Seated” program in Bingham County.
This new program is the first of its kind in Idaho, although it is in place statewide in many states across the country.
Our departments have combined to initiate a program here in Bingham County to help protect the children of Bingham County.

A highlight of the day’s activities was creating a new exhibit in recognition of the role of migrant farm workers on the Idaho potato industry.
In addition to the Blackfoot/Bingham County Youth Coalition, volunteers came from the Idaho Migrant Council Branch, Blackfoot Chamber of Commerce, Idaho Potato Expo Museum, Fraternal Order of Police, Citizens on Patrol (Blackfoot Police), Jobs Daughters, Palmer Drug Abuse Program, Bingham County Explorers (Bingham County Sheriff’s Office) and Boy Scouts of America Troop.
The Blackfoot/Bingham County project was one of 10 JOIN HANDS DAY events from 2003 that received a Certificate of Distinction.

After a large-scale trial at the Oregon State Fair, the system was used in primaries in Fulton and DeKalb Counties, Georgia; By the general election that fall, several counties in Oregon and California had moved to this new technology, and things looked promising enough that, in 1965, IBM bought the company.
The model 150 and 550 differ in speed; the 150 is slower, suitable for small counties and for processing absentee ballots that have been folded for mailing, while the 550 is much faster, more appropriate for large counties but not as good at processing folded ballots.
