 Kinsley S. Bingham
Bingham was born to the farmer family of Calvin and Betsy (Scott) Bingham in Camillus, New York in Onondaga County.
Bingham became a member of the state house of representatives in 1837, was reelected four times and served as Speaker of the House in 1838, 1839, and 1842.
Bingham was elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 1858 and served in the 36th and 37th Congresses from March 4, 1859, until his death on October 5, 1861.

Even though the first settlers began arriving in Clinton County in the early 1820s, St. Johns was not established until 1856 after land speculators with information about the location of a new railroad had selected the site in 1854 as a depot stop along the Detroit and Milwaukee Railroad.
An established farmer in Bingham Township, Emmons sold land in an area south from State Street as far as Park Street and from Lansing Street which came to be known as "Emmonsville." He also owned land further south, known as Emmon's Woods, which is today's St. Johns City Park.
Changes in the city's municipal structure includes its separation from Bingham Township in 1905 when it became a fourth class city with a new charter, and adoption of a commission-manager form of government in 1919.

PHILO ACKLEY, farmer and oil producer, Kendall Creek, was born in Cayuga county, N.Y., in 1821, a son of Ahiel and Clarissa (Olmstead) Ackley, natives of Connecticut, and farmers by occupation.
Ernest Leopold was reared in Erie county, receiving a common-school education, and followed farming until 1869, when he went to Venango county and engaged in drilling wells; he remained there four years, and then went to Clarion county, where he stayed three years.
Sage was reared in Broome county, and received an ordinary education, after which he learned the carpenter’s trade, which he followed until April, 1876, when he came to McKean county, and worked at building oil rigs, or derricks, also at tool dressing and drilling.
