The theory describes the fluid in terms of regions of fully plastic flow bounded by a ``fake'' yield surface.

To study this problem, we present a numerical model that simulates the coupling of a Bingham plastic mudslide on a gentle uniform slope with the surface waves which it generates.
A formulation of the dynamics of the problem is presented, where the landslide is treated as an incompressible Bingham plastic flow and the water motion is assumed irrotational.
The Bingham plastic behavior of the mud significantly reduces the extent and the speed of the mudslide and also the magnitude of the surface waves generated.

YP is lowered by adding deflocculant to a clay-based mud and increased by adding freshly dispersed clay or a flocculant, such as lime.

Three nondimensional groups are used for damper analysis, namely, the Bingham number, the nondimensional plug thickness, and the area coefficient defined as the ratio of the piston head area, to the cross-sectional area of the annular bypass.
In the flow mode case, the damping coefficient, which is defined as the ratio of equivalent viscous damping of the Bingham plastic material, to the Newtonian viscous damping, is a function of the nondimensional plug thickness only.
