One of the four provinces of the ARMM region in Northern Mindanao is LanaodelSur.
It is surrounded by the provinces of Lanaodel Norte on the north, Bukidnon on the east, Illana Bay on the west and Cotabato and Maguindanao on the south.
Lake Lanao is known to be the deepest lake in the country and is surrounded by lush countryside-farming villages impregnated with rice and cornfields.
The Lanao political kingpin died of complications brought on by pneumonia between 3 and 4 a.m.
He was also a former governor of LanaodelSur and Lanaodel Norte provinces, and was president of the Mindanao State University System for 10 years from 1976.
Born on June 15, 1918, in Binidayan, Lanao, Mohammad Ali B. Dimaporo was the eldest among the four children of Datu Dimaporo Mamalapat and Potri-Maamor Burngao.

The eldest of eight children, Dimaporo was born on June 15, 1918, to Datu Dimaporo Marahom and Potri-Maamor Borngao Marahom in Binidayan, a small town south of Lake Lanao in LanaodelSur.
His father was the sultan of Binidayan but the title later went to a cousin.
In the local elections that year, Dimaporo ran for governor of Lanaodel Norte under the LP banner but he was not expected to win.
