Bintulu is a coastal town, and the capital of the Bintulu District (7,220.4 square kilometers) in the Bintulu Division of Sarawak, Malaysia.
Bintulu was annexed as part of Sarawak by Rajah James Brooke in 1861.
Until the 1960's Bintulu was primarily a port for the fishing and the timber trade, with the Kemena River providing access to the sea for the timber cut from inland forests.

He was, however, thankful that the police in Bintulu admitted their error and came to his relatives' house to apologise to him for the wasted hours at the police station.

In 2000, Japan Gas Corporation (JGC), Kellog Brown and Root (KBR) and Sime Engineering joint venture has awarded contracts for two LNG trains for the third phase expansion of the Malaysia Liquefied Natural Gas (MLNG) Complex in Bintulu (Sarawak, Malaysia).
It is hoped this will boost Malaysia's total LNG production to 23 million tonnes a year and transform Bintulu into the world's largest LNG producer from a single location.
The contract award to Foxboro followed the successful implementation of Foxboro I/A series systems on LNG trains 4, 5, and 6 (MLNG Dua), and the rehabilitation of LNG Trains 1, 2, and 3 (MLNG Satu) with the I/A Series system.

In January 2001, my wife and I were fortunate to be invited as guests to a 7-room longhouse, located to the North of Bintulu in Sarawak.
Visiting a longhouse is regarded as being one of the highlights of any visitor's stay in Sarawak, but not everybody is so fortunate as to be able to make a visit accompanied by hosts who are part of the longhouse family.

An alternate route to KL from Bintulu, if you have a car, is to drive 3hrs North to Miri Airport and take a direct flight to KL.
I have also been to the Kinstown Inn (downtown Bintulu) for breakfast at its Signature Cafe (086 333666), and both Inn and Cafe seem to be newly renovated, with downtown Bintulu street views at the window tables.
There is a Hospital Bintulu at the Jalan Nyabau roundabout, but beware of the long lines and dour front desk staff directing you to make a pre-appointment at the Klinik Bintulu near the (old)Airport (20km away).
